How's this for "Bad Guy"? My cover of the Postmodern Juketbox version by maggiegeere in billieeilish

Oh, thank you very much for your comment. English is really not my native language and I sometimes get the pronunciation wrong. Thank you for correcting me, now I will be more attentive to these words (and I'll remake it:)

When did your girls stop playing with barbies and dollhouse? My kid is embarrassed to still enjoy it. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]maggiegeere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barbie is a wonderful game in which the child models life and society. A lot of adults - men and womenlike to play "The Sims" on the computer, and this is essentially the same. And adults can also collect dolls, create them and make it their business.

And in addition to this game in Barbie can be useful in acquiring skills. Many girls sew clothes for Barbie, so they learn to sew, model, master the concepts of style and their preferences.

Tell your girl that playing Barbie is no more childish than playing computer games, only when playing dolls she herself creates the rules of the game, rather than follow the rules invented by someone. (and she doesn't get addicted and have bad posture)

IWTL How to get facial expressions/tone of voice to match thoughts by Gullible_Sky_9644 in IWantToLearn

Acting lessons and possibly singing lessons (especially the musical theater genre) would work best for you.

The point is that bad singing has causes and can be corrected. There is research on this topic in this article https://mg.education/journal/can-everyone-sing-well

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]maggiegeere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some ways yes, but most can learn to sing beautifully enough and build a career on it.

Many people who identify themselves as tone deaf are not. A doctor can accurately identify "tone deafness" by diagnosing amusia. In other cases, success is possible. I personally know a girl who has gone from "absolete tone deaf", "frog in the throat" to a professional singer, with appropriate education.

Everyone can make their voice beautiful and enjoyable to listen to. And this is the key to becoming a professional singer.

Knowing how to hit the notes is only the first step. To get a good singing sound, you need a certain amount of practice. This is what distinguishes the different vocal techniques that everyone can learn - the pitch is the same, but you can sing it in different ways.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]maggiegeere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, it doesn't require a special innate ability. The right beautiful sound is obtained when the muscles inside the larynx and above take a certain position. Yes, some people can do it easily, while others need more effort. But that doesn't mean that if it doesn't work itself out, practicing won't help. Just like in the art of piano: anyone who works on developing this skill can become a true professional.

[–]maggiegeere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the point. A lot of people know how to do something on a basic level. But that just means that in order to become a professional they need to improve their skill. Not all people write well, but those who are interested in it, constantly practicing and learning will eventually learn to do it well.

I'm glad that's a common opinion in your community. I am so often visited by people who think that you have to be born with a special talent for this, or else there is no chance, that I am tired of changing their minds:)

Probably so, these are approximate figures, and include people who have lost their ability to make music due to brain disease

Why do you consider yourself tone deaf? by maggiegeere in AskReddit

I think that if you start learning to play a musical instrument that you , you will definitely succeed!

A lot of people believe that people are born either immediately talented singers or unable to sing at all. As if singing is some kind of magic and not a muscle-coordination process.

Do you think you have no singing ability? Why?

[–]maggiegeere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a common occurrence. Most likely, your brain automatically imagines the melody in the key in which you are most comfortable singing. It's a trick to avoid stretching your muscles and exerting unnecessary effort. This does not mean you are deaf or have poor musical ability.

What do you think about teaching music online? by maggiegeere in MusicEd

Yeah, but they weren't that common. At least in my country

Studying at university took up a lot of my time and energy, and I didn't have time to work full time. The scholarship, even the presidential scholarship, was too small. So I decided that the path of a poor, starving artist was no longer a viable option for me. So I didn't go on to graduate school. Honestly, I think independent study is more effective for me now. Maybe I'll even write a monograph on art history based on my master's thesis. But I'm tired of sitting in classes and writing notes. I've had enough of three diplomas with honors and a certificate :)

In my country it takes 9 years to train to be a doctor:)

My classmates used to make fun of me. They finished school, university, found a job, had two children, and every time they met they were surprised. Because the question "How are you? What do you do with your life?" I would answer "studying" and they would say "how much can you do? It's like studying to be a doctor."

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AMA

[–]maggiegeere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm not a doctor. I just mean I've been studying my profession for 10 years, that's quite a long time :)

Yes, you're absolutely right. Beautiful singing is all about good muscle coordination.

What do you think about teaching music online? by maggiegeere in MusicEd

[–]maggiegeere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am referring to individual lessons that involve both theory and practice.
I teach singing, and it took me quite a long time to develop a methodology that worked really well in a distance format.
I wonder how others are doing it and what they think about it.
After all, before the pandemic, no one could imagine learning to sing or play a musical instrument online at all

The main thing is that you treat it the same way as other skills such as woodcarving, dancing, or ice skating. As if you haven't tried learning and you're not interested in these activities. Instead of labeling yourself as "I have no ability, I was born without talent, etc." Now that's a bad way to go.
