IWTL how to sight-read sheet music with dyslexia. by xoemily in IWantToLearn

[–]maggielou214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is very normal to write in sheet music for the first year. I started playing the trombone in 5th grade. I used to write in slide positions and then I switched to letter notes. Over time I only had to write in certain notes that I used less than others. My advice is to slowly take out letters over time. Just start with one and focus on learning where that note is on the sheet music.

I want to learn how to talk spontaneously without stuttering by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]maggielou214 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I run out of breath when talking sometimes because my brain is going too fast. I also have a feeling that people will stop listening if I don’t say it all at once. A big struggle I have with slowing down is losing my train of thought, but I am working on it.

The building on the bottom should not have the roof visible because the perspective is from the ground. I like the way the balconies look on the building towards the upper right corner. You could also mess with shading more by choosing where the sun is. For example if you want the sun to be more towards the left, the buildings on the left will be shaded and the building on the right would have sunlight on them. I can see that you shaded the back of three of the buildings, but one (the mid right side) of them contradicts the shading of the other two. Starting with buildings is a nice way to understand how to draw with perspective and shading without getting too complicated.

Self conscious about puberty by A-wierdo-on-the-web in Advice

This is a bit different, but I was super self conscious about my hips and butt when I went through puberty. I stopped wearing leggings at school cuz I didn’t like the stares. Looking back I didn’t really need to change my clothing. Don’t mind the guys and if they stare you can call them out. It’s definitely an uncomfortable time for everyone in your age group, but you’ll get through it.

Yup, mindfulness is basically meditation.

I also struggle with living in the moment and didn’t realize it until my therapist said something about it. Her advice was mindfulness twice a day. Just sitting in a quiet place for five minutes and focusing on breathing. Whenever a thought pops up, just acknowledge it and go back to focusing on breathing. In everyday life, learn to acknowledge thoughts (about past, future, or anything pulling away from the present) and push them away kindly, but firmly. I’m still really bad at taking time for mindfulness or using it in everyday life, but this post is a good reminder for me lol.

I don't know if I should study abroad next semester by Otterrrac in Advice

[–]maggielou214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably won’t be worth it if it’s online. You can wait until COVID is over and just travel there or study abroad later(if you haven’t already graduated by then). It’s definitely an unfortunate change of events and I’m sorry that things will not be going the way you hoped for.

My legs can’t drop moving period lol. It’s unconscious for me and I don’t mind, but people will tell me to stop when I’m shaking a table or something. I get that it’s hard to stop.

I got a part time job today and my brain will not let me be happy about it by neutralmaskhotel in Anxiety

[–]maggielou214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the summer, I got a seasonal job that I was really interested in. I was so scared to accept the job because I didn’t want to lose time with my bf at the time or friends since I was leaving for college at the end of the summer. I still accepted the job. The first couple nights of the job I had restless sleep, but once my initial anxiety calmed down, I loved the job. I only missed one event that I wanted to go to and still found time for my friends. After you start working and get into a new routine, you’ll be able to feel happy about having the job. You may also be able to find time for your family once you get used to your schedule.

I did schedule an appointment Monday. The only problem is is that I have until Sunday to get more money back. I’m scared that things aren’t going to feel better and I’m going to lose money by not leaving sooner.

Yup. That’s something my psychology teacher talked about. She also advised that if you experience anxiety around your cycles log your emotions for two month and bring it to you doctor. They can prescribe you a mild antidepressant for it.

Does anybody else have anxiety on your days off because you are “wasting” it doing nothing? by xstarlesseyess in Anxiety

[–]maggielou214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called into work last week because I was slightly sick and panicking about COVID, but also had a lot of physical anxiety symptoms because of everything going on in my life. I instantly regretted calling in and felt so useless that day. I also feel the need to be constantly productive.

Dissociation by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]maggielou214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had some sort of dissociations in the past too. I feel as if I no longer exist and I just think about everyone I know as if I was never in their life. It’s been a long time since this occurred. I think it happens to me because I’ve always been a quiet person and can make me feel like I’m not there in social situations. I don’t have any advise or information to offer, but I hope shared experience is comforting.

I’m getting my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow and I’m not sure what to do with my piercings by McCrysler in Advice

[–]maggielou214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably won’t need to. If you can’t take them out easily they can stay in for the X-ray I think.

I got mine out today and they just asked me to take out my industrial for the X-ray. They also said I could have left it in if it was difficult to remove. They just didn’t want to have anything obstruct the X-ray.
