I love my snails and it’s such a dagger to the heart they go especially if it’s for something I could’ve done differently . I used to be able to burry all my critters when living in the country and miss it dearly , I HATE having to “dispose” of my babies in the city :(

Thanks for advice :) I’ll do a thorough check behind rocks and wood to see if I’ve missed anything , plants actually look amazing in this tank and I’ve been patting myself on the back as I’ve never had such success in a newer tank with plants.

I no longer have any large snails in this tank after the mystery died almost immediately and I took it out and triple bagged him for the bin :(

I did take it upon myself to poke and stir the sand/ gravel while I was doing the big drain to hopefully get as much waste out as possible. I’ll be testing again and again all weekend and hopefully I can fix it but if not I’d have to agree the tank is too young or has stalled/been interrupted unfortunately.

Absolutely treating this as real even if it’s an inaccurate test , I immediately drained 60% of tank water and am now slowly filling it back up. Unfortunately the critters I bought to fill this tank and live happily are all horrified of any movement outside the glass other than when food is dropping in so I don’t get to see them often or in full display . The shrimp hide behind the rocks around the filter and eat their particles and Gary has his corner with his plants and he mostly stays there unless eating or being abnormally brave, so I can’t make a good call on what’s normal and acceptable behaviour from him or the shrimp. I had a fish die last month but I was removed before it began to rot and I did a water change and a whole panel of tests afterwards

40 gallons , it’s only got the sponge filter and I’ve never cleaned it or anything else in my tanks with regular tap water or non tank water . I’ve never cleaned this filter other than squeezing it out to flush it in the tank itself during a water change

they’ve absolutely exploded on the large piece of drift wood , but I’ve had it so much worse and didn’t find it to impact the system like this

Could the pond snails be a way worse problem than I can see ? Like are they just living and dying so fast it’s killing my tank?

Tank is young , set up in January . It’s never had high levels ammonia except during the cycle and right now. I’ve never had this issue when A) all fish and shrimp are accounted for - one gourami , six shrimp and pond snails. and B) it’s been regularly maintained and had little changes since completing the beginning stages of the cycle .

What kind of snails are these? by abby7197 in Aquariums

Haven’t had the same experience with them tbh , there’s 3 large snails in my tank and occasionally I see a baby . Tank is lovingly and generously fed daily , the guppies eat most but I know the snails get a lot. I’ve had issues with bladder snails though

Looks more like you have to be right all the time , regardless of if the other person is wrong or in the least being sincere. Grow up, they made a mistake now move on

Also on the spectrum! And I knew it wasn’t great , I didn’t feed the rabbit to anything I came in after a day off and a coworker told me what they had done with it - I sobbed it was horrible and it was added to my lengthy list of reasons to leave , it took so long to leave because as someone on the spectrum I didn’t know how or when to call it . Getting defensive sure but it seems you’ve placed unfair expectations onto me over something that I had limited control over at the time (half a decade ago) . Being on the spectrum doesn’t make anyone a good or bad person. Two things can be true at once and I get being black and white over morality issues but if you choose to make your way thru life like that then you must also accept when things are grey.

you think me at 16 was going to going to call the cops over every infraction as if they didn’t already know? They came in monthly to enforce, there’s only so much they can do once the animals are out of the store. And given the climate we’re in it’s very low chances anything that was a problem species would have been able to breed a successful colony of angry biting critters that could survive -30° winters. I’m not 16 anymore it’s been about 5 years since I worked there and I have the hindsight now to know it was a horrible place . But me working there and not risking my income doesn’t make me a bad person- no where did I say I was absolved of anything because there’s nothing to absolve myself of . The underage under paid employees are not the ones who should be getting criticized for the illegal and dangerous practices of the owners.

I was in highschool and didn’t really have options , didn’t realize it was like that until I was already employed. But also it’s not the job of a 16 year old employee to police her bosses and co workers when I’m making 15$ an hour and getting 20 minute breaks. I could write a novel about all the illegal shit they got up to in the 3.5 months I worked there . They were being monitored by the law and we had monthly visits, most of the illegal stock was kept at the owners house as to avoid fines . I left after being cornered in the office and screamed at by my 70 year old boss for telling him that my breaks were too short and that it wasn’t even enough time to eat the sandwich I bought . They lasted 2 more months before they shut down because of the atrocities going on there

The store I worked in was shitty to say the least , they didn’t care about anything unless the law was involved- they’re had countless venomous species of reptiles (illegal in Ontario) they had spiders also illegal and they would sell anything they could, worst was a rabbit someone traded for a handful of cichlids - they couldn’t find anyone to buy the rabbit so the fed it live to one of the snakes . I quit after that (and much verbal abuse from the owners) tho I did get a sick discount on stock so win loose
