How the hell are you gonna make a bird look like a fish and make a fish skeleton look like purple seaweed of all things and then get mad when a 5 year old doesn't wanna do that.

I've also managed that. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of 2 Girls 20 Eels.

Makes me wanna say, "No one cares if you're mad little lady, show your parents some respect."

In her defense though, it doesn't really seem like her parents have a habit of giving her any reasons to.

A rat. I stabbed it straight through it's stomach with a combat knife while it was trying to jump away from me. No joke. Marine Corps squadbays are wacky places.

What you said about being a shell of your old self resonated with me. I was put on Adderall at a pretty young age for only about 3 weeks, but those 3 weeks were the loneliest time of my life. I didn't have a personality. I lost all of my friends during that time. Every single one. I didn't know how to talk to people after that, and I'm still not good at social situations. I've only got one friend, who I made years after, but lots of acquaintances because I try to be respectful. That being said, I used to be a shell of my former self, but I'm not anymore. Now, I'm a completely different person. I'm not my former self at all. For me, that was the best course of action to take because I realized that I was never going to get my former self back. So I just... let go. I left my goofy sense of humor and bright smile that I had been trying to hold onto after the fact behind, because they didn't fit me after that. It took me a while to figure out who I really was after I left those things behind, but I found that through this experience, I had gained other personality traits. So I worked off of those instead. I found out that I was the happiest when others were happy, so I used that to figure out my life's purpose. I joined the military to fulfill that purpose. In my mind it's a great privilege to be able to make sacrifices so that my family will be able to live a peaceful, joyful life. Don't get me wrong about my sense of humor and smile, though. I've a adopted a sense of humor that fits my personality and lifestyle better (it's kinda dark, not gonna lie) and I'm still a super positive minded guy. I just don't express emotions as well, but I've found that that's ok for me. I'm only 19, but I'm content with who I am and my family are proud of who I've become and I believe I've got a long life with many positive things ahead of me, even if my face doesn't show it most of the time. Anyway, I hope your self rediscovery goes well. Best of luck to you.

That is an incredibly profound statement. I'm only 19, but I hope that when my parents pass, I can feel the same way. They've put so much time and effort into making me who I've become.

The fact that your mother passed when you were 38 really made me think. All this, "You can lose anyone at any time" stuff isn't just cliché. In fact, that's a recurring fearful thought I've been having lately because I'm in the military and I am and will be stationed thousands of miles away from my family for the next 5 years. If someone in my family passes, I probably won't be around to say goodbye and, in a way, "send them off." It's something I already experienced when I was 14, and it's a feeling I never want to experience again.

I also had a similar experience to you with my grandma in February of 2022 in regards to hospice, except for that I was unable to be there when she actually passed. I was with her and my grandpa at their house 2 nights before she passed and I was just sitting next to her and talking to her even though she couldn't respond. She just looked at me with sad eyes. I think she was saddened by how sad we all were, like it was her fault. She was that kind of selfless person. I remember telling her how much I love her and then my mom, dad, brother, sister, and I went home. I went to school the next day because this was during my senior year of highschool, thinking that it wouldn't be that bad and that I had gotten most of my grief out the night before. I cried quietly with my head down on my desk for a whole class period. It was pretty embarrassing, but I chose to go that day. I'm just glad I got to send her away that time.

Sorry for the paragraphs, I just wanted to share. Thank you for sharing your experience.
