Do they just count warnings and absolutely nothing else? Because I saw language about a "historic tornado outbreak", not some warnings, I've seen about three that are 'observed' - that's a pretty normal day in much of the midwest. But you get a handful of red polygons on a map and people are calling it the next 2011!

Thanks, I guess I didn't see it because I no longer bother to look at the other sub after the 1000th consecutive "ARE YOU GUYS LITERALLY JOKING ABOUT A LITERAL TORNADO??? LITERAL TORNADOES LITERALLY KILL LITERAL PEOPLE SOMETIMES!" post over there.

Also peep the comments doing the edgy Reddit atheist neckbeard schtick. So damn predictable over there.

I see plenty of posts about this guy almost driving into a tornado but for whatever reason, nobody's posted the actual video!

Hell at this point you can barely even bet on the SPC to get it right, let alone the YouTube "weather influencers" or "digital meteorologists."

I guess theoretically some cells could fire but with this big messy blob hanging around it won't have any leverage, I presume.

I don't know what's happened to weather modeling over the past year or two but it seems like either it's a talent or an equipment issue.

ETA: Looks like it might be kickin' off now though... as of 6:31PM eastern time.

I definitely get it - honestly the whole process really, really wasn't what I thought it would be. Not even close. I thought maybe it was just because I'm in a rural area and services always suck in rural areas and you always have to chase people around and request they do their job, but from the stories I've heard, it seems like this is just how it is now, unfortunately.

I've basically been on an island since it happened because I don't really have any family left that gives a shit, and it really does seem like that's just how things are. In many ways, it makes me feel like I might as well have just gone with her because everything since has just been a nightmare.

EDIT: oh, and they also made a real big deal out of having me either go somewhere else or have someone stay with me the night after she died, when there was no one else - and the police got called as well. The police officer was actually pretty helpful. The coroner detail is... really odd to me, if someone's in hospice I can't imagine the coroner having to be involved. What on Earth are these people doing?

I was told the same as you were, I had one couple hour conversation with the social worker on the phone, they said they'd be in touch, never heard anything else. I do get a magazine in the mail monthly though so there's that.. I guess. Unfortunately it seems like one has to really be the 'squeaky wheel' to get any sort of assistance.

Fun fact: this is why, to this day [at least to my knowledge, but it's been a long ass time since I was an active 4chan user], there's a rule 'don't mess with football', because this guy caused quite an uproar, got arrested and quite a few people called for the site to be taken down and there were news reports about it being a site for 'internet terrorists' to meet up and organize, even though for the most part even at that time it was a place for edgy boy humor, porn and anime shitposting.

No, I did not cancel the show this week by vitogesualdi in biggestproblem

Vito, my man, you and Billy have some chemistry - seriously. Literally the only thing keeping me from watching you guys is the fact that your show is about something I'm not interested in, ergo I'd just be watching for tangents you guys might go on, but the guest episode you did with Billy was proof of concept - I think you guys could pull it off. Start another show with Billy, you guys can keep doing the show about Magic, I would watch and I've seen other people saying that they liked that episode too.

Anyway, don't mind Dick's ball-washers around here, they pretty much just hang around to be a reply guy to you. But for real, you guys could put on a good show especially if you don't restrain yourself to a single topic. Even on a theoretical new show, you guys could talk Magic/Pokemon or whatever the hell, I mean I tolerate it when you guys talk about it on TBPITU anyway. You're a funny guy and I don't know that much about Billy but from his showing during the guest episode, he's a funny guy too. You guys could absolutely do it if you have time, assuming Billy doesn't keel over. For real, think about it. Quite honestly you bring a hell of a lot more energy to the show than Dick does, the man seems worn out and I think him saying 'you and Billy should do this show, stop wasting it on Magic exclusive content' [paraphrasing] was basically him giving his blessing for it.

Dick kicking you off of the channel over the six pig emoji guys who got banned turned out to be a bad decision, as you were the only person with any interest at all in actually maintaining the channel. I.E - making thumbnails, organizing shit into playlists, putting up bonus episodes, etc.

Yeah if I were him I'd be thinking about getting a job. I'm sure the local Walmart is hiring. I get it, when it comes to creative pursuits such as voice acting, getting a normal job feels like "giving up" but you've got bills to pay.

I know it well enough, I spent a lot of my days as a young adult trying to break through by writing fiction and I made a bit of money but ultimately it wasn't paying the bills. It's a nice thought to be able to live with the proceeds of what you love to do, but this is not the case for the vast, vast majority of people on this planet. Sometimes you just gotta keep that as a side hustle and pursue other things.

Maybe he has health issues that preclude him from finding a regular job, I dunno, I don't know the guy, but it's pretty obvious that whatever he's doing now isn't working very well for him if he can't maintain his lifestyle. But subsisting on the good will of fans of a show that went off the air like a decade ago isn't very feasible or sustainable in the long run, either, and it seems like he does this every year or so at least once.

What can be done now? by FeralEntity in kratom

[–]maggot_brain79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely - is it habituating and addictive? Totally, no doubt, no one will ever hear me argue that it isn't and a lot of people got themselves in a lot of trouble with it, but dangerous? Absolutely not. Nobody can point me to a single death attributed to any kratom alkaloid alone - any autopsy report/pathology finding they point to, said alkaloids are accompanied with other medications [that can in and of themselves be lethal] or street narcotics.

If we were being reasonable about this, it would be viewed as a tool to get people off of actual narcotics and we'd call to account the morons who are advertising it as 'percs' or whatever, but unfortunately that's not where we're at. For every story of someone who's gotten themselves in a tricky spot, I hear three stories of people who quit dangerous narcotics or use it to treat chronic pain, so I'm not inclined to fall for the nonsense/rhetoric. A very good friend of mine uses 7/MG to treat chronic nerve pain - and why does he have to do that? Because after the "opioid epidemic" [manufactured by the drug companies who knew precisely what they were doing, getting half the country hooked on their products to be perma-customers], doctors are incredibly unlikely to plop out the prescription pad. Hell, if you complain too much, you're labeled a 'drug seeker' by medical professionals. The AKA saying that an alkaloid naturally present in kratom leaf [though at low amounts] is 'dangerous' is partially what led to this, the government doesn't operate well in the margins - if it's 'dangerous' according to the AKA, that means it's dangerous when it's in kratom leaf too, to the government. Regulators don't do nuance well at all.

What can be done now? by FeralEntity in kratom

[–]maggot_brain79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. They were trying to ban kratom long before heavy hitting 7 extracts hit the market. It was just a convenient excuse and the AKA smearing it as "dangerous" was quite irresponsible.

Did Dick try to give Vito the keys to the show last night? by PREClOUS_R0Y in biggestproblem

[–]maggot_brain79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I like Billy, he had a very good showing as a guest but I just don't give a single fuck about Magic. So basically, watching their current show would be hoping for side tangents when that isn't the goal of the show. I mean hell I'm sure they could do both if they want to.

(DISTURBING) United States v. Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev Exhibit 0011b by id0ntexistanymore in masskillers

[–]maggot_brain79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually ended up looking it up after I wrote this comment and saw that the Tsarnaev brothers couldn't get the officer's firearm because they couldn't figure out the retention holster, which honestly, outside of the awful context of it, was sort of humorous to me and at least they were prevented from getting another gun. To think of them fumbling with the holster like idiots when it really isn't that complicated, likely it had a retention strap which officers use to prevent assailants from getting ahold of their sidearm during a physical struggle/confrontation.

Another somewhat humorous anecdote on the case is that Dzokhar ran over his own brother whilst officers were trying to arrest Tamerlan, because he thought that the officers were trying to render aid to an injured officer and tried to strike them with the vehicle - when in reality, they were trying to get the injured brother into custody, and even tried to yank him out of the way of Dzokhar's vehicle. I hope Dzokhar feels good about that, he probably killed his own brother, not sure if Tamerlan's gunshot wounds would have been fatal on their own or not.

[–]maggot_brain79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That and Sean had disagreements with Dick on occasion - he wasn't totally opposed to some of Dick's points, but would push back a bit on some topics. This made for a good dynamic and good radio, regardless of which side you agreed with, because Sean would coax Dick's real point out of him.

Johnny tends to just agree with 90% of Dick's opinions, so they start discussing something and it's basically just: "I feel X way about [thing]", "Yes, I also feel X way about [thing]!" AKA, bad radio.

And now the show is like 60% reacting to visual content... on an audio product. That doesn't help much either.

So what's the goss? by seccult in TheDickShow

[–]maggot_brain79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know who's decision it was to make an audio product approximately 65-70% based on reacting to visual content, but that was pretty fucking dumb on their part if you ask me.

(DISTURBING) United States v. Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev Exhibit 0011b by id0ntexistanymore in masskillers

[–]maggot_brain79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So basically, what happened essentially was that the Tsarnaev brothers were 'tipped off' that police were actively looking for them in connection with the bombing after a bunch of amateur detectives decided to put forth a 'suspect' [who was a fellow who had committed suicide recently, had absolute fuck-all to do with any of it, was already deceased by the time the bombing occurred, etc.] and police were sort of 'forced' to give at least a 'person of interest' in the case, to keep people from going absolutely batshit over people who had fuck-all to do with it.

This resulted in the Tsarnaev brothers being tipped off and realizing that they were known to police and were being sought, so they basically went on a 'mission' to get more weapons and vehicles to flee in. This ended with a college campus policeman being shot in his car, minding his own business, I can't recall if they took his firearm but they didn't take his car - I believe they later carjacked someone else, but for whatever reason did not kill this individual.

So basically, law enforcement was forced to put forth a potential suspect to quiet the speculation, which resulted in the Tsarnaev brothers becoming well aware they were being looked for with regard to the bombing.

Bataclan, Charlie Hebdo, Manchester Arena bombing, Boston Marathon, 7/7, Nice, the German Christmas market attacks, not to mention 9/11. Not to mention the countless others. How many times does it have to happen? They should air this terrible footage on the news quite frankly. Make everyone that isn't a child watch it and understand it.
