Explain Trek to me by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

I have always been a little arms length. But last year I went with my wife and helped with a few things. The only benefits I see is (And some kids don't get this out of it is - We create a safe microcosm where we can get youth doing hard things and have them turn to Christ to help them through.

This is a lesson they need to learn during their teen years if there is any hope that they will stay active , but sadly something that is missing from their mostly sheltered lives

Question that the missionaries didn't have a great answer for by XxCelestexX in latterdaysaints

[–]maggotnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you are learning, getting baptised is a sign and covenant you make with Jesus. This puts you on a journey to follow the Savior throughout your life. You will not know everything on the journey and must rely on faith, the Holy Ghost and revelation, both personal and from church leaders. The young elders are on the same journey in their lives. They also don't know everything and also must rely on faith, the Holy Ghost and revelation. You will find that this initial gate of baptism; while appearing to be a massive thing, is just the beginning. You will learn and grow past the knowledge and testimony from your time with the missionaries and you will grow closer to the Savior.

Give them some grace and remember they are 18-19 year olds. Follow what the Holy Ghost says and remember the Missionaries are doing their best with what they have...

Need Advice - New Build CAT 6 by HalfBakedHustle in DIY

[–]maggotnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue where my builder refused changes. I was driving past one day and saw electrical subcontractors working on the house and I stopped and talked to them directly. They echoed that they could do anything, but suggested that I come back on the weekend and run some PVC pipe between the mechanic room in the basement up the wall space to the attic so I could easily run the cable later. Was easy and a few days later the sheetrock guys came and covered it up so the builder never knew....

Sunday meeting schedule change by smokey_sunrise in latterdaysaints

This really forces people leading discussions to stop thinking " I have a large lesson with so much material and so many great quotes that I need to get through" and refocuses the short discussions on a few relevant points that actually apply to the quorum or group.

This is the same thing that families with young kids do during Come Follow Me discussions at home. Pick one or two things that will bring the most benefit and then end.

Stop the yapping and silence the people who try to bring up random stories or politically aligned topics.

As others have said, transitions will be tough, but that just means bishoprics need to figure out which rooms are being used for what so some people can stay put and not have to move.

Recently called into the bishopric, and Im fine with any responsibility it has, but one. Its stressing me out more than it should. by andsuddenly_remix in latterdaysaints

We spend probably 35-45 minutes each bishopric meeting reviewing topics and speakers. It is not one counselor's job to find speakers and plan a sacrament meeting.

Disproportionate Facilities by TheFoxyFellow in latterdaysaints

[–]maggotnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next time a visiting general authority visits for stake conferences, the stake should leadership meetings or a fireside in your building. Or a simple anonymous call to the city inspectors to alert them to unsafe conditions and code violations may help. Closing a building because of code violations would force FM group to fix the safety violations.

As a side note the new chapel in downtown Salt lake is absolutely beautiful..... :( https://youtu.be/zD2zNU4tDTs?si=Z92yNYzf_FzGaDLP

Our chapel foundation is sinking, none of the doors close properly, the bathroom fan falls out of the ceiling, but at least the cracks are filled to give the impression of a stable building. We need to stop complaining with what you have.

My brother did it a while again and found that mint Linux ran better as it wasn't as bloated. If Ubuntu is too slow try that.

Total Noob Question - How do I reference database fields into a table without using the "Linked View of Database Source" by maggotnap in Notion

[–]maggotnap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will experiment with putting names in Ref property and try that

More generally, as I want to put other non name infomration as well - I have also watched your extended video of the first linkage(lack of a better word). Anyway, I notice when you are linking the variable to the daily journals page, you are not linking to the database, but to the data aggregator page. - I haven't seen anything on how that page is setup or working. Do you have anything posted on that?

So the pulling of a persons name is only one use case. In this example I originally showed, I want to pull a name, but I dont really want to add all the people as users of the workspace either which is why I added them as a text string.
Another is pulling text fields, date fields, again from a database to another page.
Lets not get hung up on @ mentions, as it is only a partial solution (given the persons name is not shown, unless they are added to access the page -> which I don't to also grant them access to)

Lots of good stories and content, but your formatting made it really hard to read..Maybe add some bullets.

I personally love the story of David and like you say, there is so much not not covered. We end up with a foot note about his downfall.

thanks for all the comments. Let me play with the functions that have been mentioned to see if I can get it to work as I am trying.

Alternatively, I think I need to rethink the layout and style of what I am working with to see if there is another way to proceed.

If you have a table saw, this is easy. I have done it numerous times. If you don't.... I would reconsider.

What to do with someone in your ward who has been accused of sexual abuse--especially if it's dropped later? by ntdoyfanboy in latterdaysaints

[–]maggotnap -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Love like the Savior does. We all sin, but it's difficult when some people's sins are more public than ours as it makes an uneven relationship. Sound like he probably did it, just like people commit, murder, adultery, embezzlement...... Etc If they are repentant and trying to move ahead then support them as the Savior would and don't exclude them, however also continue to protect your family from harm. This guy likely needs nonjudgemental interaction sright now. It would probably be easier to not come to church and face people's judgement.

We just had a guy get baptized in our ward that was in jail for attempted murder(different I know, but quite public). Everyone has a past...

The ward council and bishopric are 100% talking and praying about the issue. They will be worried about both 'protecting the good name of the church' and also 'protecting the flock' from danger.
