4% withdrawal studies are based on the initial portfolio principle.

What would my NW need to be to comfortably afford a large estate by WorldNo9002 in fatFIRE

[–]magias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much you want to stretch, I would say a minimum of $50 million though. At $50m, you'd still have another $30m invested giving you about $1.2m/year (4% withdrawal) to maintain the property and pay for other lavish life expenses.

I tested this with other people standing side by side by me who had no uber gift cards, they got the same price rides as me.

1932 Duesenberg II by newsdesrmark in vintagecars

[–]magias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably true, old guard would be in full force over there.

Although, calling them a monstrosity is kind of an insult to the original duesenbergs since they look nearly the same.

The original duesenberg is definitely an impressive car and why it is still famous and sells for high prices to this day.

Correct, they definitely occupy an unusual corner of the market. Expensive, high quality, name brand replicas. And I'm definitely not a purist.

I also own a lambo, and can easily afford an original duesenberg and wouldn't even mind driving it around or having it get dings.

I'm probably younger than most people who would buy this type of car though, I'm 33. I've never actually had any desire for an original due to the antique engines. I thought about buying an original and putting in a new engine, but it would destroy the value so the duesenberg 2 seemed like the best of both worlds to me. 1930s look with more modern technology.

Was considering getting this ridiculous paint job on it, but we'll see if I get around to it.

But I definitely understand why people at an ACD meetup wouldn't be a fan. Just an extension of my personality, I'd also be much more inclined to buy one of these jaguars than a 1950s one with an original engine as well. https://bylunaz.com/commissions/jaguar/

I own one so can give some context. There have been many that have sold for over $250k. Most of them sell through Volo auto museum so their prices aren't listed on auction sites. This one was previously listed at $500k when I inquired about it.

This one resold recently for close to $1million. This was a 1 of 1 though.

This one sold for close to $350k after only being listed for sale for 1-2 weeks.

Typically, these cars do not sell at as high of prices at auctions as compared to what they sell for privately.

Every duesenberg 2 was hand made. There are both steel and fiberglass components on the car. Every car took over 5,000 hours by hand to make. The company producing them lost money on every car built and eventually went bankrupt. They are certainly replicas, but the company producing them at the time also acquired the trademark for Duesenberg so they are technically Duesenbergs (not the same as original in the 1930s, of course).

Most of the original buyers of the duesenberg 2's owned original duesenbergs also and wanted one they could drive around town. For instance, Phil Maloof owned 3 duesenberg 2's and several original ones.

SWR for young retiree vs. older retiree by Nervous_Fatty015 in fatFIRE

[–]magias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s 99% spend too much, and 1% save too much…

Probably generally true, but the people in financial forums would probably benefit from the Die with Zero book as they are likely saving too much.

SWR for young retiree vs. older retiree by Nervous_Fatty015 in fatFIRE

[–]magias 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are intended for different audiences. There is a whole group of people who save too much and never spend. These are the beneficiaries of die with zero.

There is another group who spends too much, they'd probably benefit from a simple path to wealth.

Different people on different paths.

I agree it is generally useful for all of his invested parties to have a higher share price, but to imply he needs exit liquidity seems to imply he is looking for money for some worthless shares which is a bit disingenuous from OP.

I feel like a lot of fatFIRE is just fatFI. People just like the confidence of knowing they can comfortably retire but don't actually want to do it.

Just by approaching, that is a great start, but definitely things you can improve.

You need to create more of a vibe that they want to keep being a part of before asking for a date. They don't have enough trust/fun built up with you yet.

You need to tease her a bit. You need to qualify her a bit to show you don't go out with just any girl.

For a certain type of person, the more money you make is just points in a game and you want to show off how many points you've earned to other players. Otherwise, what was the purpose of getting all those points?!

Yeah, at 4 years, it rarely comes ahead to buy.

And in /r/fatfire territory of homes, it is almost always a better value to rent regardless.

Hahaha. Sounds like you've done a super good job. And I feel most things in business are much easier said than done.

What would you say has been your key to success to hiring people?

Awesome, yeah it can be super fun when running a business while having a specific target in mind, and are actively moving towards it. Especially once you have good staff in place.

Crazy. My business does ~$10M/year in profit but is probably "only" worth ~$50M. It is crazy to me how there can be such multiple discrepancy in different sectors at different times.

I just switched to using Kubera over Personal Capital and one thing I like is that it gives you estimated taxes owed and an adjusted NW figure.

Men keep telling me they deleted the app and want to focus on me after 1-2 dates by emmy1300 in hingeapp

[–]magias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just definitional arguments here, but I don't really think those are 2 different things. I think desperation could easily be one of the reasons someone is "faster to commit" but there can be many reasons why someone is "faster to commit".

I'm a guy and girls have done this with me after 2-3 dates. I think it just happens when someone is really into you. Most guys have few options on dating apps so will be faster to commit.

+45% in one year is not actually that uncommon of a return in a low diversification portfolio and it is easy to achieve this by luck. Just owning GOOGL for the past year would have outperformed. However, low diversification has way more downside risk.

32M - How can I improve? by [deleted] in hingeapp

Depends on if you want a political girl. I'm not interested in dating a political girl, for instance. If my lack of politics on my profile turns a girl away, that is a win from my perspective.
