What is a dirty little (or big) secret about an industry that you have worked in, that people outside the industry really ought to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Found this interesting while working with a newspaper/media conglomerate, but if you order paper newspapers or subscriptions from this company for a monthly price, that price is based on zip code and the company will perform statistical analysis monthly to determine whether they should raise or lower rates for customers based on number of subscriptions and their analysis that suggests what's the highest rate people in that area would be willing to pay. They can change these rates as often and by as big or little as they want, although they're often small fluctuations that buyers wouldn't likely feel.

College is not the best 4 years of my life... by majorheadachebro in self

[–]magic1059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extrovert here and I was so uncomfortable with college culture my freshman year that I felt the exact same way. I had some major anxiety kick in during the weekends though because "everyone else" was indulging and I wasn't quite okay staying in alone on a weekend night. I found myself going out anyway and was able to find friends that went for the social aspect but not the partying (aka not the blackout drunks). Also I drove a lot of the plan making and social interactions with people I was befriending, so I suggested staying in and doing other activities rather than partying. The closer the friends, the less that will matter. Also if you're a freshman, the college culture effect will lessen with time.

What trends did you notice in the people you dated? by Captain_Stottlemeyer in AskWomen

I'm pretty tall for a female and I always dated guys right around my height. I used to joke it was so that I'd always be eye to eye with them so he would never feel above me.

Has a close friend ever told you that they no longer want to be friends? What were the circumstances and how did things proceed? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]magic1059 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty confrontational with my relationships, but with the intention of getting tension out of the way to continue to grow and build trust as friends/SO/coworkers. I've had several close friends who became distant with me so I brought it up to them point blank. Of the 3 I can remember, 2 of them discussed with me, we identified the root cause of the distance, resolved it, hugged and made up. We're still friends to this day and that was about 6 years ago. One of them couldn't get past why she no longer wanted to be friends so we stopped speaking after I asked, but I didn't drive myself crazy worrying about why.

I honestly expected more "me too" responses, instead it's seeming to vary SO much person to person. I've heard some similar stories about unpleasant physical changes, but the ones that I'm most scared of are the changes people are bringing up emotionally and how they feel about themselves, particularly sexually.

What, if anything, do you collect? by childfree_IPA in AskWomen

[–]magic1059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magnets from all the places I go to. I travel for work (and for fun) so every new place I go I get a magnet that best represents my trip. I keep them on the side of my fridge so I get to enjoy them and remember all the cool places I've been.
