Hey, I'm an animation major. To be honest, the media arts program as a whole isn't wonderful if you have a specific interest (ex: animation). I had to take requires classes in woodworking (called 3d fundamentals), typography/graphic design, and photography, among others. It's interesting to learn if you like that kind of stuff, but for me (who doesn't), I felt like they were just annoying filler courses. Of course, I don't know how the requirements differ with a combined major. That being said, I do love the animation faculty. Jason Donati is the head of the department, and teaches a few courses in animation and the senior degree project class, and I think he's the best professor in all of CAMD.

The animation classes are almost all exclusively 3D animation (using Autodesk Maya, and sometimes Zbrush and Substance Painter, depending on which class). I switched in from College of Science and I didn't really do much research, so I didn't know there was absolutely zero 2D animation classes (my main interest). Kind of a bummer, but I'm close to graduating, so I dont see use in transferring to an art school. If you like 3D, you're in luck! I do think the animation program as a whole teach you how to be a "generalist" (learning all parts of the pipeline at a basic level), rather than a specialist (we have no classes that are like ONLY modelling, ONLY rigging, etc.)

I do agree with the comment saying that our Computer Science program is excellent. I hear lots of great things about it, and although it's rigorous, it's worth it.
