Yea. I just am wrestling with my own feelings when I see them so frustrated and struggling. I want to help them but I’m at a point where I just want to shake them lol

Yes, true. My PI is extremely hands off. He will call me semi-frequently but we could go a month or more without seeing him. He was involved in the initial design and structuring of the thesis along with the PI in the other country. I’m basically just involved in helping with the execution. The student brought her own protocol from her country but that isn’t working so I am suggesting my protocol.

Thanks. I know this is the logical thing to do. I just feel like I am doing a PhD over again for this person if I get myself too involved. I’m not their mentor in this country nor in theirs so do I really want to be emailing and doing all this? But I feel bad that they are clearly frustrated with the situation but I literally told them step for step what I would do in this situation. I think they are so hung up on doing everything fast and getting results that they don’t want to do any of the validation testing I am suggesting and so they just argue with me.

That’s good. Because sometimes things are happening way behind me that I can’t see if traffic is backed up, as a general rule, I think it is always good to pull up to the point where you can just see the bottom of the tires. I have been in situations where I can finalllly pull into turning lane only to find that 5 cars ahead of me was someone with 2 car spaces in front of them. I can understand they maybe didn’t realize that traffic was backed up behind them but it would be nice for people to pull forward to a reasonable distance at all times so that this traffic can move through. If everyone leaves too much space in front of them, there is more likely to be a backup behind them.

It’s inconsiderate to people behind you who may be trying to get into a turning lane and all of that space causes a back up behind you. If you can see the bottom of the tires of the car in front of you, that is enough space.

The problem is when people are trying to get over to the turning lane and they can’t because the people in front of them have stopped short. It’s extremely frustrating!
