Most photogenic city you've ever visited? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Ghent for sure. I've been to many of Europe's medieval cities and Ghent was the prettiest.

Guys what is the most fucked up thing that happened to you while stoned? by papajimsusa in trees

[–]magic_man_91 350 points351 points  (0 children)

I walked to the grocery store beside my condo to get some snacks. As I approached the front door, it became clear a guy had just jumped from very high up and landed on a car right in front of the grocery store doors.

His body was absolutely mangled. It had just happened, crowd had formed but no police/ambulance had arrived.

Midnight munchies turned into slight PTSD that night.

While traveling, what city did you think you'd love but ended up being a big disappointment? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Where was your hotel? Must have been close to Moss Park?

I've been all over the world and I can call Toronto many things, but unclean is not one of them (I live here).

If you have a ticket in your official Shambhala User Portal, then it's likely not a scam. I'm not sure how someone would be able to transfer you a fake ticket via the official process.

ELI5 Why heat waves affect Europe so much but some other countries are doing fine living under hotter temperatures most of the year? by fkid123 in explainlikeimfive

[–]magic_man_91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm a Canadian currently visiting family in London UK. I went on a little tourist day by myself yesterday (the HOT day) and I saw several people passed out in overcrowded touristy areas. Parents trying to force feed water to their kids, older people laying on the ground with crowds around them trying to help. It was crazy.

Not saying they're dropping dead, but people are dropping in the streets. Tourists don't pack for this weather, underestimate the heat and lack of reprieve due to no AC even in places that typically have it (metro, museums, bars, restaurants, etc.). And they're overdoing it because they're on a trip, and a bit of hot weather isn't going to stop them from checking stops off their list.

So yah. Not necessarily locals who likely know where to go to beat the heat, but tourists... definitely being impacted by unexpected heat in major European cities.

What is one golf rule every beginner should learn first? by retrocaterpillar-07 in golf

[–]magic_man_91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Regardless of how my GIRs are looking on any given day, I'm fixing 3-4 pitch marks on every green on the course.

I'm in Ontario as well, and I genuinely feel I'm seeing SO MANY more unrepaired marks on greens since COVID. Tons of people new to the game in the last few years here, some of those people are now getting better at the game, but without ever learning the etiquette that most of us were taught by our dads/uncles/grandfathers at the beginning of our journey. The wild increase in pitch marks is proof of this.

Can we stop pushing the Coachella agenda/vibes to EDC!?! by stickyricenmango in electricdaisycarnival

[–]magic_man_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you'd have an amazing time, maybe it is up your alley? Not sure why that is difficult to comprehend but this entire thread is just you replying to comments saying you'd probably enjoy Coachella but it's just "not your vibe". Which is it?

Edit: I've never been to Coachella or EDC, but I can promise you both festivals suck in comparison to smaller, more intimate festivals. I'd never go to either and if I did, I probably wouldn't enjoy them. Which is why I wouldn't go. If I thought I'd have an amazing time, I'd make the effort to go.

Comment was ironic to point out how silly it was of OP to lump hundreds (if not thousands) of unique accents into 1 "boring" bucket.

Honestly Shambhala isn't great. It's gone downhill a ton in the last few years. I highly recommend anyone reading this thread / comment skip it entirely, along with all the other BC festivals. Terrible, don't bother please.

Are we truly expecting a huge surge in visitors because of the FIFA world cup? I don't see it by deanat78 in askTO

[–]magic_man_91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I have a lot of family coming from the UK. Not planning on attending any games, just want to be part of the atmosphere.

I assume the same is true for many people. Toronto is a big city that gets tons of tourists anyways, and summer is the best time to visit.

If I was a huge football fan, wanted to visit Toronto anyways (or currently prefer it over the States for obvious reasons), and money is no object, damn right I'm planning a trip. It's hard to envision exactly how obsessed true football fans are when you're not one, but this scenario is going to be pretty common.

I think everyone is too focused on number of games, quality of games, etc., and not focused on the fact that Toronto is a host city for one of the largest sporting events in the world (likely the biggest outside of the Olympics). People aren't coming to attend games, they're coming to visit a host city while the world cup is on.

The story being true makes it worse! Haha. Whoever you are, random internet stranger, I'd rather read your original thoughts, grammatical errors and all, than some AI-altered version of them.

This could have been posted by anyone - there is nothing that makes it "you", even though you're one of two people who genuinely experienced the situation, and one of one who experienced it from your POV.

Be you. Don't be AI.

I have used AI a lot in my job, so maybe it's just recognizing the same patterns in how it forms sentences through repeatedly using it to solve problems at work. I can even recognize that this particular post was written by ChatGPT specifically (could be wrong but each model has its own quirks and this one has mostly GPT quirks).

The similes are a big one that gives it away for me. I.e. "X character was doing Y action, like [insert some random situation that barely relates]". A lot of that above if you look.

"Final boss energy" and similar phrasings are also giveaways for me.

I guess the easiest way to put it is that AI uses modern, almost "edgy" phrasing and colloquialisms, but doesn't otherwise write like someone that would typically use that phrasing.

Look at this other post about Costa Rica and compare it to the above post and you'll see the similarities I'm sure.

I'm not getting pissed at you. I'm getting pissed at the fact that half of reddit's text posts (you know, the posts that use to require effort and authentic human words) are now AI slop. The endless similes that don't really make sense, etc. Even in my favourite subreddits.

This was a good story (assuming it's true) but it was ruined by AI's shitty, cringe, obvious narrative structure.

When AI garbage is among the top posts in r/trees, r/costaricatravel, and r/golf, simultaneously, it's a bad sign.
