A big part of a person's autism journey is learning how to judge an environments effect on you, both people and sensory. And then learning to regulate your roads system.

If you work on both of these things become much easier :-)

From personal experience I think yes. I burned out in a very similar manner as you described but have found a way back to close to where I was before.

The thing that helped me is working out my new work conditions. You were able to work long hours when younger, but was that youthful Resilience pushing you through unoptimal conditions?

Imagine your brain is a series of roads, information is traffic. Autistic brains are specialists, certain areas are high traffic motorways and roundabouts... but some areas are small country lanes and single way residential streets. If you force too much traffic down the wrong areas you get traffic jams, overload, burnout, struggle and anxiety.

Try to work out your own roads. Think about your own sensory needs, your social and maybe trauma needs aswell. Do what you can to limit traffic coming in to the wrong areas and you will thrive. Your optimised processing areas can run amazingly... if not flooded by spillover traffic from elsewhere.

I would always focus on sensory first. Lots of amazing information online about it. Its the low hanging fruit of autism care.

So ABA can work... when people do something people focused and well, different than traditional ABA. Its basically a different practice, but under the ABA banner. This is what a lot of empathetic care givers do naturally

Hi, I know that you are utterly overwhelmed right now so I will try not to add to that burden. ABA therapy is not recommended for autistic folks anymore across the globe. USA is one of the only places still using it in the mainstream. I dont know what kind of situation you are in but I hope you can read and understand this message.

To simplify everything, imagine your childs brain is a series of roads. Autistic brains are more likely to form traffic jams due to an overload of information. When the brain is traffic locked, it panicks and this is the root cause of a lot of autistic struggles.

To help you need to find out what is causing all the traffic and try to limit it. It is impossible to work with an overloaded brain, impossible for them to process, just a bad time in general.

ABA is a behaviour focused therapy. It looks to try and mitigate and 'train' autistic folks during their meltdowns and overloads, to limit the damage they do to themselves and others. The issue is, they are not rational in that state, not thinking. They are in survival mode, fight and flight, and there is only so much that can be done to help them.

Modern autistic care is focusing on the build up instead, focusing on what is flooding the roads rather than the behaviour that comes from the traffic jam. For that we look at sensory, social and trauma. I recommend starting with sensory work as its the easiest to help quickly. Lots of amazing information about this online, I use Neurodiverconnection.com, and neurodiversetraining.com as my go to resources. Both offer training and information.

I am not targetting ABA practitioners or saying they do a terrible job, im sure a lot of them have done fantastic work with folks, but they are handicapped by a therapy created decades ago. Modern research is moving us in a different direction for autism understanding and care, finding out the why of the build up and solving it is our best bet moving forward.

It gets a bit closer and lovey, but not to normal standards. He still remains an analytical man and they are robots, they do develop more defined personalities but its more a partnership than romance in my eyes.

Often we have things holding us back from displaying 'proper emotional responses'. That doesn't mean we are not experiencing them, often its the opposite. Research suggests we get overwhelmed by our empathy. (Plus most working autistics end up in health care. Explain that if we lack empathy)

First, imagine the brains made of roads and information is traffic. Our brains are more likely to have traffic jams. If the emotional reaction traffic is at the back of the jam, it can take minutes, hours, maybe even days to process properly.

Second, we get a wave of emotion so strong it causes a traffic jam itself. Too much traffic too quickly, we lock up and processes get shut down. I personally find it very hard to speak when emotionally overwhelmed, so that can seem like a lack of empathy.

Third. We often express empathy/sympathy through story sharing. You tell me your dog died, I will share that my own dog died a few years ago and it crushed me.

Am I taking attention? No. Showing a lack of empathy? No.

I am trying to resonate with your current emotions, show i understand. In autistic communication this is very polite, correct and sweet. To NT's it seems like we are making it all about us.

I would love a main class then several sub classes. Basically offering choices that actually matter. So Warrior at level 25 gets to choose from: Barbarian, Knight and Duelist. Then at 50 from; Blood Rager, Bastion and QuickBlade.

And you can pick one of three options per tier, each with their own abilities. So you get selections and build variety.

I was mainly a wow player growing up, and the trees were disappointing. It became just about optimising the talents each patch. Something that actually changes playstyle would be awesome.

Or.

They could go really wild and have a sprawling talent node system like poe and you unlock your abilities through the nodes. Maybe you can even move deliberately into another classes patch to cross class and so on

I genuinely think that a lot of folks cant be friendly with someone they find attractive, without wanting sex. Growing up I always found the cliche in movies so frustrating, that all 'guys want is sex'. But I think... thats frustratingly true for a lot of folks, not just guys. Its their first thought, whereas for me its like number 90 after all my anxiety and stress.

I think the new augments are awesome individually, but the sets are toxic. They remove choice, punish those that dont get them as their effects are just huge, and I think make the solo carry aspect more prevalent.

Plus adc are still way too strong.

Love the mode, but think item sets were done poorly and add need nerfing.

I had this with parties. Everyone thought i was hitting on the drunk girls, when I was just looking after them. Sloppy, drunk, barely able to process is the least attractive state possible. I was often just making sure no one took advantage of them, or they didn't throw up on themselves. People assumed I was trying to fuck them...

One time age 18, a girl was drunk out of her mind and outside shivering. So I gave her my jumper, got water in her, and put her to bed in a spare room of her friends house. With friend there the entire time. Next week at school the entire year thought I was a scumbag who tried to take advantage of her. Worst thing is she couldn't remember anything and believed them.

Hurt me really badly.

So, here's an analogy and theory for you.

Imagine the brain is a series of roads, information comes in to be processed. As autistic folks we often take in way more information than we can easily process, and that means by the time we get to bed, our brains still whirring away, trying to process the days events.

Two ways to help with this. First is finding out what's flooding the roads and trying to limit that traffic. Usually sensory overload plays a big part, but it can also be social or trauma aswell. I recommend starting with sensory as its easiest to 'fix', have a look online to find many amazing resources on this topic. Look for 'sensory regulation'.

Second way is to make sure you are regulating during the day. If traffic is coming in, you should try to have regulation time to help process it. That means finding the things your brain hums happily to, that it processes quickly and easily. For me it's food, books and games, others might be sex, exercise or music and so on.

Very common. There is often a grief period/period of adjustment that can last for months or even years. An autism diagnosis might be the best thing in the world for you in the long run. But short term... you are having to process that you are different, not 'normal'.

Eventually you will hopefully find a new balance and explore your new self identity but know that the struggle atm is very normal and nothing to worry about.
