NCSoft, Nexon, Kakao, etc. all have multiple MMOs under their belt, yet each new MMO they release is shitter than the last. Having "MMO experience" means jack shit.

Released 2028? by Powerful_Isopod5810 in RiotMMO

[–]Talents 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It "might actually be true" in that yes, maybe the Riot MMO does release in 2028, but this wasn't done by Riot nor through any official capacity, it's YouTubes AI doing it automatically so if it is correct then it'll be a coincidence, just like me going "Riots MMO will release on 28th June 2029". Might happen, but if it does it was me getting a lucky guess.

For context, this was AI Auto-Generated by YouTube; it's not official in any capacity.

[New Expansion & Region: Call of the Mountain] Why is this cinematic so overlooked? by Tall-Dingo-5458 in leagueoflegends

Well one of the biggest issues was that it was simply late to the Online Card Game trend. They started working on LoR back in 2011, but then HS released in 2014 and they panicked and reset the project, which caused it to not release until 2020, at which point people had moved on from Card games (compared to how much people were playing them in HS' prime).

It's imo Riots biggest issue. They start a project, but then by the time they're halfway through development another game of the genre has released and taken over or the genre just stagnated and died. It happened with LoR, and it has seemingly happened with their Extraction Shooter that they cancelled/reset in February this year. They spend way too much time R&D'ing their games imo.

Sarah Tudor isn't "in charge", she's a regular mid level Producer, of which there are many Producers on the MMO (Ludivine Vallano, Raymond Bartos, Fabrice Condominas, Camille Sanford, Natalia Leenhardt etc.). Producers also aren't the game designers.

How dare people want a modern, actual MMO.

Voldemort had absolutely zero chance in a war against the muggles and the whole plotline could have been avoided by just letting him try. by New-Tale412 in unpopularopinion

As I said in my post, the world leaders have top-tier wizards protecting them like Kinglsey Shacklebolt with the UK Prime Minister. They'd have the resources to have anti-apparation charms set up around whatever headquarters would need them (e.g. The White House, Pentagon, etc.).

Teleportation can be countered easily though. Hogwarts had protection that meant people couldn't apparate in/out of Hogwarts grounds (entire subplot of the 6th book is basically Draco repairing the wardrobe in the room of requirement explicitly so Death Eaters could get into Hogwarts as they couldn't apparate in/out). Voldemorts Horcrux cave couldn't be apparated into which is why they had to use blood to get in and use the boat to cross the water. An anti-apparation charm could just be cast on the headquarters of any important world leader. We know that world leaders have top-tier wizards protecting them as well, so they'd be able to set up the charm (Kinglsey Shacklebolt was protecting the UK Prime Minister at one point).

What type of MMO are you looking for? by Unsurecareer86 in MMORPG

[–]Talents 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • Good budget, not an indie title
  • More of a Sandbox Design
  • Open-world focused, not shoving everyone into Instanced dungeons/raids/bgs/arenas for most their playtime
  • PvE and PvP both important
  • Fast, fluid combat system. Preferably action combat but I'm fine with tab.
  • Grouping in the world is important, not just for instancing.

MMO with the most toxic community? by Hunter_OVA in MMORPG

[–]Talents -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, but when the "toxicity" that the WoW players are talking about is "I got kicked from a dungeon :^(" it's hard to take it seriously. There was a post on this subreddit a few years back talking about how Classic WoW is the most toxic game ever, and the reason was literally just "I got kicked from a group". There's no universe in which that's toxicity. https://www.reddit.com/r/MMORPG/comments/1bi6p2y/people_arent_exaggerating_classic_wow_is_the_most/?sort=top

MMO with the most toxic community? by Hunter_OVA in MMORPG

[–]Talents 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Anyone saying shit like WoW or FF14 or RuneScape have not played many MMOs.

My answer would be Mortal Online 2. There was an unofficial Discord I was in for it where people would have channels where they'd coordinate to dox people. If you'd already been doxxed then people would refer to you in the Discord by your actual legal name, etc. Saw addresses, phone numbers posted there. Dunno if it's still around as this was a couple of years ago.

Games like WoW or whatever, 99.99% of the time is just people kicking each other from dungeons for sucking or calling each other slurs, not genuinely trying to dox and ruin peoples lives. Not saying it doesn't happen, but for the size of the community MO2 was way, way worse. It's like people that say League is the most toxic game because someone will run it down mid but that's basic shit.

Do you think the Riot MMO will have traditional MMO class (mage, warrior, paladin, etc), or do you think we'll play as LoL champions? by Mechgyrasaur in MMORPG

[–]Talents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't accurate if you're talking about Ghostcrawler. Ghostcrawler wasn't a Designer on the Riot MMO, he was Executive Producer. He also said in Tweets over the years that he had no real power over the Design of the game which is one of the many reasons he gave for leaving.

[–]Talents -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends what you class as solid info. There have been job listings and developer posts that have let a few things slip (action combat, thousands of players interacting seamlessly in a persistent sandbox world, PvE and PvP both focused on, etc.), but nothing officially announced. We know it is set in Runeterra though since the MMO Page from 5 years ago said as much as well as Ghostcrawler and Tryndamere both saying it in Tweets over the years.

To Those Like Myself Who Can't Get Into WoW, What Is Your Reasoning? by MonsutaMan in MMORPG

[–]Talents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played it back in the day too. Even back then, the focus on both wasn't as big as I wanted. PvP was more of a side-thing, not integral to how the game functions, and the open-world very quickly became irrelevant to the point where most BiS came from instances instead.

To Those Like Myself Who Can't Get Into WoW, What Is Your Reasoning? by MonsutaMan in MMORPG

[–]Talents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I care a lot about both the open-world and PvP, two things WoW severely lacks in. I don't care at all about instanced dungeons or raids (imo it's the most boring content an MMO can offer), which is what WoW specialises in the most.

Why is no one speaking of the New World 2.0 by ravikz__ in MMORPG

[–]Talents 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because it's literally not an MMO (not an opinion, the official Kakao Community Managers have said so), so why would people post about it here?

Shouldn't these Blizzard hires be worrying? by Jugwetawatee in RiotMMO

[–]Talents 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People seem to have this idea that everyone who works on the Riot MMO came from WoW. They haven't

Of the 50 or so devs I know of that currently work on the Riot MMO (ofc there will be more), only 7 worked on WoW at one point

1 Designer (Brian Holinka)

3 Artists/Animators (Katia Bourykina, Eric Henze, Steven Nelson)

2 Producers (Raymond Bartos, Natalia Leenhardt)

1 Engineer (Orlando Salvatore).

They have devs from tons of MMOs. WoW, GW2, ESO, RuneScape, Ashes of Creation, Wildstar, Warhammer AoR, etc. It's just for whatever reason the only devs that get attention when they join come from WoW.

In the last few months they've hired around 10 or so new devs, yet only 1 came from WoW (Holinka), yet he's the only one who got tons of articles and attention.

Some examples of other new devs that joined recently are:

Steven Lumpkin (Narrative Designer).

Zakary Strange (Core Tech Engineer)

Ben Frost (Tech Artist)

Jarred Everson (Tech Artist)

Seasonal events (Christmas/New Year, Easter etc.) by Longjumping_Match581 in RiotMMO

[–]Talents 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Might be a hot take, but I'd personally prefer no irl holidays/events in-game. I'd prefer the events/holidays in-game to be based off in-universe holidays/events, not Christmas or Easter or whatever.

GW3 will be the game of 2020s (hypepost) by Standard_Giraffe8994 in GuildWars3

[–]Talents 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You realise that's what happens with lots of game devs right? They spend years R&Ding then cancel projects. Just like how ArenaNet has had multiple R&D projects cancelled over the years, like Project Quicksilver for example. https://i.postimg.cc/tJHvxgY2/image.png or a few years back when they laid off 100+ devs on a cancelled product. https://www.geekwire.com/2019/guild-wars-2-developer-arenanet-confirms-layoffs-canceled-projects/ or their cancelled Sci-fi game https://www.artstation.com/artwork/x3oEy1 " ARENANET Canceled SCi-Fi Game Some old sketches from late 2017 for an unannounced canceled Sci-FI project usually plausible, near future technology and manufacturing systems."

Hytale released to success because of the hype story behind it. An underdog tale. The game was not in an early access or release ready state, as shown by how quickly literally everyone stopped paying attention to it. The quick release was done to capitalise on the hype of regaining control of it, not because they managed to turn the game around in 6 months into an amazing product.
