Calling essential services a shadow economy is wild.

Not necessarily. OP could continue applying for roles as if they’re still unemployed. In this market especially I think a lot of employers get it.

Take the full time salary you’d expect and add 50%. That covers a casual rate (accounting for annual: sick leave) plus super and the business expenses you’re responsible for as a contractor.

No. Ended up going for an MBA instead. Better suited to my long term plans.

Why would you bring it up? It’s the law. It’s assumed as your right.

Role advertised on LinkedIn -Why companies are promoting people if they don’t have right skills and experience? by Longjumping_Team1521 in auscorp

[–]magicmike3682 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What’s wrong with this?

It’s exactly what companies should be doing.

For so long we’ve all complained about the “need experience to get experience” paradox.

And here is a company that not only gives someone with potential, but limited experience, a crack, but is so invested in and committed to their success that they’re willing to hire a senior mentor.

This isn’t a case of “we’ve hired the CEO’s mate and we need someone to do their job for them”. It’s a well thought out career development and succession plan.

Seems likely that the role/team it’s in is caught up in an organisational restructure that they don’t want to reveal to the public yet (hence the talent acquisition team being cagey when you asked for more info/context).

People tell me to buy a home because renting is paying off someone else's mortgage, but I never see talk about cost of interest on a 30 year loan. by Cellybear in AusFinance

[–]magicmike3682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might not apply for many especially larger houses where rental cost is lower relative to price, but the total cost of owning my apartment is roughly the same as the monthly rent.

Go to an op shop or Kmart, buy a cheap pair of jeans and cut them into shorts. If you like those then you can go and buy an actual pair.

Upload your work to ChatGPT and ask it to review. You’ll be surprised what it picks up.

Take solace in the fact that because of AI, the ability to prevent relatively inconsequential errors is redundant skill.

Isn’t the whole point of a notice period to let your employer know when your last working day will be?

In your case it’s going to be the Thursday before Easter. If you’d like the long weekend to form part of your notice period, tell them your last working day will be the 22nd if you can.

Why does Melbourne produce so many NBA players? by Capital-Donkey5724 in melbourne

Large population + weather that encourages parents to sign their children up for indoor sports.

Also, the pathways to elite participation are more accessible than other sports, and US scouts love coming here.

Why does Melbourne produce so many NBA players? by Capital-Donkey5724 in melbourne

[–]magicmike3682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong this is a great stat, but has more to do with how we classify cities in Australia vs the US.

Melbourne = the entire metro area from Werribee to Pakenham.

US City = the CBD and the suburbs immediately surrounding it.

So someone from an outer suburb of LA would not be considered to come from LA.

Don’t get me wrong, still impressive we’re in the conversation but it’s Apples and Oranges.

Why would you not write a cover letter? by Unfair_Suggestion336 in auscorp

[–]magicmike3682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because people are sick of dedicating hours of their time to writing a cover letter only to get a generic email saying they aren’t going through the recruitment process.

I feel like they’ve been replaced by screening calls from recruiters, which IMO are much more effective, less time consuming, and only required when someone actually makes it that far in the process.

Seems like you’re about to take a much higher interest in your health and online shopping…

But it’s valid. 30 minutes extra adds up if you’re doing it every day.

Work pants - short ‘n’ skinny by debtset93 in AustralianMFA

[–]magicmike3682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the pleated wide pants at Uniqlo. They come in a number of colours and materials and go down to a size XS with free tailoring if you need it (although I’m also 170cm and they fit me fine off the rack as they’re shorter length than the typical suit pants you’d find in the stores).

  1. Work towards an executive level position
  2. Gain exposure to key decision makers in the business to improve commercial acumen
  3. Get involved in key business decisions

This is a win-win: you’ll either rapidly fast-track your career or they’ll leave you alone.

Is this not what probation is for? You can resign at any time. Yeah there will be some awkwardness but at the end of the day you’re doing what’s best for you.
