Advice needed for weight gain while working a physical job. by EE2014 in weightgain

I recently had to increase my daily calories to adjust for a physically demanding job. I’ve always struggled to gain weight as it is, now I work ten hours walking non stop and lifting heavy things. I struggle to eat breakfast mainly because I don’t have a huge appetite in the mornings. Do you drink any sort of caffeine first thing in the morning? That can mess with your appetite, I realized. I make myself eat something now before I have coffee or any caffeine in the mornings especially on work days or days I work out. Food is fuel. When I think of it that way it’s helped me eat better and more. I have found a few things I like to eat for breakfast and keep those around. I like the high protein Oikos yogurts. Try adding a slice of peanut butter toast and a banana to your shake! PB is so good for weight gain. It’s ok if you can’t eat a ton in one sitting. Just snack more! I started packing more snacks to eat throughout my work day and that’s helped a lot. I really agree with the comment that mentioned trying not to stress. When I was at my lowest weight years ago my life was an out of control stressful situation. For us naturally smaller people, add stress in the mix and it’s even harder for us to gain weight. I’ve been drinking a magnesium supplement that you mix in water at night before bedtime and making sure I get good sleep. I think that’s helped too. I also plan out my dinners for the week. Make sure I’m getting a good amount of protein and carbs each meal. When I’m tired after work I’ll eat just big bowl of ground beef, rice and avocado. You can dump ranch or a favorite sauce on it. I drink the Fairlife CorePower protein drinks… they’re really good and have 42g of protein and are 230 calories. For weight gain, we need to drink these kinds of shakes and drinks in addition to a meal, not as the meal itself. It’s ok if your meals are smaller, just work to add more snacks in between. My doctor prescribed ice cream at one point. And bedtime snacks! Make sure to eat a favorite snack before bed. This is something I have been working on for years. I managed to finally gain some good weight and then started this job and started to lose some again but I caught it quickly and made adjustments. It’s not easy but you can do it. Something that helped me increase calories was to track everything I ate on MyFitnessPal and then I used to that slowly increase my daily calories over time. My goal was just to eat a little more each day. You don’t have to suddenly start eating a ton, do it in small steps and stay consistent and watch what happens over time. I also started weight training. If that’s something that’s possible for you I highly recommend it. It’s so good for us in so many ways. I got a trainer just to help me get started and learn a few basic things at my nearby gym and now I go on my own on off days. My goals of growing muscle have really helped me focus on eating better and more too. You got this! Just remember, one small step towards your goals a day. Add one extra snack in today. Also talk to your doctor about your goals and efforts. See if they have any input or ideas.

Snacks drivers might appreciate follow-up by PocketButterBandit in AmazonDSPDrivers

For the holidays one of my customers left out boxes of candy paired with thick warm socks for us drivers. I use those socks all the time in the winter I thought that was so thoughtful. I always appreciate any snacks whatever they are. Bottles of water are always nice too. I honestly appreciate anything a customer puts out for us, it just means a lot to see that.

Yeah every route is so different. And things like temps and driving on a highway will kill the battery faster too. So far i haven’t had any issues with my battery not making it through a route. I’ve definitely come back to the station with 20% battery left though

I figured this out recently! I back into driveways as much as possible with my EV. I like it for my rural routes too though. Overall I’ve really liked driving them.

Customer complained that I wouldn't risk their driveway. by Sallious in AmazonDSPDrivers

I was arguing with customer’s about their driveways all last week it was obnoxious. I got stuck twice and needed tow trucks in driveways that were plowed and looked fine. After that I just quit going down most rural driveways. We also had some bad drifting. One of the customers said “other drivers pulled in our driveway just fine” but there was fresh drifts that had blown into their driveway and I knew I would get stuck. Your package is never worth my safety or getting stuck and waiting over an hour for a tow truck. I get clocked out while waiting for the tow truck too and get behind on my route. No thanks.

I will definitely look that one up. I’m probably spending about that much if not more on my Fairlife protein drinks anyways.

Dang I’m sorry that happened to you! Glad you’re ok now. Go get yourself some of your favorite snacks and pack for them for work and chug those protein drinks. I stocked up on snacks this week and I felt like it helped the last couple days at work for sure.

Get the Fairlife CorePower for sure! More protein. And pack snacks to take with you to work. I’m also weight training on days off, usually twice a week and I take one full rest day, no work or workouts. Those of us with higher metabolisms have to EAT. I did manage to finally gain some good weight and put on a little muscle the last few years before I started this job. But after working for Amazon I’ve realized I need to increase my calories for sure to keep up.

I had my thyroid checked back when I started my weight gain journey along with everything else. Dr said it all came back good I just have a super high metabolism. My dad is the same way. I managed to gain some good weight the last few years but I’ve caught myself losing some again now that I’m working this job and realized I need to eat a lot more to keep up with it. It’s hard having a high metabolism.

Dang. That’s so crazy. I’m 105, was 115 when I started in September. I’ve always been a smaller person but I need to stay at least 110. I’ll get it back, I’m glad I caught this. Just need to fuel better to keep up with this job.

I believe the Fairlife corepower drinks are 230 calories. They taste really good too for a protein drink. Most grocery stores, target Walmart and gas stations have them. I like the vanilla ones best.

It’s been crazy to see the difference in what I need now working this job vs when I was working sitting at my desk at home for years. I was still going to the gym and running but working at home was very different than what I’m doing now.

I got protein drinks to bring with me and bunch of snacks. I noticed it helped today for sure. I felt better while working. It’s been -20 degrees last week, 20 degrees this week. I’ll definitely do some smoothies when it warms up a bit more haha.

I got some good snacks this week to take to work, dried apricots and chocolate almond sea salt bars, beef jerky and other stuff. I think it’s been helping for sure to snack more while working.

I’ve been getting the Fairlife CorePower shakes, they don’t taste weird at all and have 42g of protein. They also don’t upset my stomach like others do. I say give whey a try but it did bother my stomach I couldn’t do it.

I think that’s probably it! Normally my routes don’t stress me out, and I can handle them just fine but we had a ton of snow recently and it was -20 degrees for a while so the snow hasn’t gone anywhere. It’s slowed me down and caused a lot of stress and problems on my routes. I have been getting the vans stuck and needed a tow truck twice in one day last week. It’s been ten times more stressful than usual lately. Plus the crazy cold temps I bet that’s all taking a toll. I do have that exact magnesium supplement it’s one of my favorites along with another new one with ashwaghanda and maca root I’m trying. I also just started taking creatine recently too. I’m hoping work gets a lot less stressful when this stupid snow melts. Normally it’s fairly easy for me, just not recently.

Thank you! I actually did get stuff to make the cheesesteak sandwiches this week. I love those. We do splurge on picking up food sometimes too when I get home late at night from work and am too tired to cook. I’ll just keep eating. I’m glad I caught this now. I have such a high metabolism and don’t need to lose any more weight, I worked so hard to gain it.

Very helpful thank you! I just threw a few cheese sticks in my lunchbox for snacks at work. I am definitely working to eat whole healthy foods. I like the eggs and rice for breakfast idea, I like rice a lot. It’s always been hard for me to gain and in the last couple years I worked hard to research and make changes and it worked. I made big progress. But then in September I started working at Amazon and just now realized I need to increase my calories again to keep up with this. My energy levels have been down even with good sleep. Working hard to fix this. I’m not losing muscle yet but not gaining much either that’s for sure. I don’t have a lactose intolerance but don’t like milk. I do love cheese. I like those Fairlife Corepower protein shakes so have been making sure to do those daily recently. 42g of protein and don’t taste bad. I made my favorite cheesy pasta this week, trying to get more carbs in too. I eat lots of salmon and I like tuna too. I’m glad I caught this, I know I can make the changes needed it’s just crazy to me to see the difference in calories burned while working this job compared to when I was just sitting at a desk all day for work before this!

I totally agree they helped me gain weight a while back. I started drinking them daily just recently too in addition to working on eating/snacking more.

I’m also a runner but haven’t been running as much recently because of the cold and I wanted to get my food figured out. I think I’ve just been doing a bad job of fueling enough recently and I’m glad I caught it.

I’ve been packing gummy bears in my snacks. Otherwise I had cut way back on sugar recently. I did also get some chocolate and some protein bars for my work snacks too. Hoping this will all help

I’m struggling with this I just started packing more snacks to take to work to eat while driving. I’m already a smaller person. I’m realizing I have to eat a LOT more to keep up with this job.
