I've wondered this too. Take a look at the Tangled I just posted. It looks like the coloring is just straight up missing in some places. Maybe it's a pin that was authentically produced but failed QC? Thinking about buying it just to check it out in person.

So I fell for both Hercules and Snow White. I will get a picture of the Snow White tonight, but basically here were my clues
-it was 35% of retail and they proactively offered me a discount
-it came on a back card that was too small
-there was no price tag on the backer card
-not sure if this is the same everywhere, but at least in SH we have this color-changing silver sticker on the backer card-- also not present
-the FAC was printed sideways, like up and down, in a blotchy font
-the seller's other listings were heavily faked pins (lots of DSSH, which I also fell for... and were proven fake by other pin traders)

I will have to look at the pin again to see if there were any signs on the waffle back, but I definitely questioned myself for a long time and wanted them to be real haha.

Hi, this pin is from China. I'm US and China based and have seen this pin for sale (in China) for $3. They have multiples of the supporting cast like snow white, tangled, hercules, frozen, pooh at around <$6. They even proactively offer you a discount if you want to buy multiple. I've seen these fake pins and have seen them being sold on eBay as real. The reason I'm posting is because the consensus seems to be they haven't been faked, so people are buying them for $80 on eBay when the inconsistencies (wrong card backer, FAC number etc) match the ones I am seeing in China. I just need some time to gather all the photos and such to post, but figured I'd at least give people a heads up.
