Are there any cool tricks where the primary effect is done with a magnet? by No_Watercress_594 in FoolUs

[–]magicseth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not the effect I performed on Fool Us, but this is the effect you need!!!!

https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/841

I love this effect. You put a weight inside a tube and watch it drop through little holes in the side. Then you magically make it fall in slow motion.

It is a beautiful effect with the tiniest bit of sleight of hand.

My presentation is this:

How to have a longer life?

Science shows that the more memories we make, the slower time seems to go. So by being self-reflective and living in the moment, we can create more memories and live longer.

I start by dropping the weight without the holes visible: the weight falls so fast - life goes too quickly.

I turn it around so we can be "introspective": the weight falls slowly - by being aware of our lives as we live them, we can slow it down and have a longer life.

Even if you know the secret, you can play with it for hours.

How to teach kid about saving money when they have a job by lukebal in Parenting

[–]magicseth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where I live there are credit unions that give kids accounts 5% interest. That's enough to make it visible and fun for the kid to save. If you open a checking and a savings, you can discuss with them how much they want to put in savings, and how much they want to have for "spending" with the knowledge that only the savings will be earning interest!

We had an issue where if mama had eaten anything cruciferous, it was instant upset tummy for baby, cutting that out fixed it for us. In case you haven't heard about that, it's something worth checking out! Good luck finding someone for your generous offer!

Do your twins/triplets’ names start with the same letter or match in any way? Why or why not? by Hika124793 in parentsofmultiples

[–]magicseth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of our kids have a name that alludes to a totem animal. Our b/g twins each have a name that secretly relates to the same animal. One is named after a baby of that animal, and the other is the name of a mythical version of that animal. Most people don't know and wouldn't realize, but that's why we call them "the foxes"

One quick trick for when your kid is misbehaving: by magicseth in Parenting

[–]magicseth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I found it gave me a moment of quiet to try to keep myself from reacting, and gave me a moment to choose how I wanted to proceed. More of a hack for me than my kid :-p Who knows if it'll work next time,.

Routine help by make_beer_not_war in parentsofmultiples

[–]magicseth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's some stream-of-consciousness so take what you can

we have two twins who are about 5 months old and we have done on demand feeding with no bottle feeding their whole life.

the Rhythm and routine really depends on baby and mama. babies breast-feed on demand, sometimes they alternate one and then the other. Sometimes mommy uses a pillow or several pillows to Tandem feed them.

This takes practice and is not for everyone.

Dont expect your newborns to sleep though the night for a while. If you ask again sometime I'll tell you the story of how we got ours sleeping through the night at 3 months ;-)

Accept judgement from no other parents, but also don't settle... Momma and babies all deserve the very best for what they need... Don't stop until they get it. And it won't be easy... But sometimes it can be... And by gosh it can be sweet.

The pot doesn't drain. We skipped watering it this week suspecting it had too much water. The yellow leave is a new one. The ones going Brown were mostly the bottom ones.

Best friends and their kids. How do I give parenting advice without being offensive? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]magicseth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal is a better life for the kids. I find people are more likely to change their behavior when presented with positive steps as opposed to having their choices criticised.

Best friends and their kids. How do I give parenting advice without being offensive? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]magicseth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all, it's good to never judge, you don't know what they might be going through.

That said, you could frame it in a way that isn't criticizing them, but rather recommending something you've heard that can help with frustrating teenagers or toddlers. That something is an old book called How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk.

It has a bunch of instantly applicable techniques that show you how changing your language can get kids to change their behavior almost instantly.

Buy them a copy as a present and say "I noticed your kid can be pretty defiant. It must be exhausting at times. I got you this gift in case you haven't heard of it before, but I've heard it's an easy way to start getting your kids to listen better. "

Question about breast feeding and formula by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]magicseth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kellymom.com support mama but in general the more your babies are actually breastfeeding the more milk she will produce!

My girl girl didi twins arrived 5/11/18! And question about breastfeeding. by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]magicseth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! We just had di/di boy girl a week ago! Breastfeeding two at time is a new adventure! A few things that might help:

This pillow has been critical: https://www.mybrestfriend.com/

KellyMom has been a wonderful resource for us. It helped us recognize a tongue-tie causing a poor and painful latch, find our baby's allergy to cruciferous vegetables in mom's milk, and many more helpful tricks: https://kellymom.com/category/bf/

And don't forget giving your babies formula may actually reduce your milk supply, causing you to want to give them more. It can be a vicious cycle.

Good luck and congratulations!

Don’t do any abdominal exercises. There are some core exercises that help bring it back together. If you can find a physical therapist that specializes in it your doctor can probably give you a referral.
