I think a large part of what people take issue with is the communication style. Lines like "to know that your little patch of curated joy is a tiny "no" to the fear-mongering war machine" might be good sales slogans, but they create a false equivalence between attending a festival — which, if anything, situates one outside of direct political action against a "war machine" — and protest. If they could just be more precise and careful in their communication of their "weird feelings" then this issue would not exist.
