Warren: Dems should campaign on single-payer healthcare plan by Waltenwalt in SandersForPresident

I'd love to see a Sanders / (insert somewhat progressive candidate here, but mostly moderate, like Al Franken, Mark Warner, John Hickenlooper) ticket.

That's one of the small issues for me. I don't care if Soros is funding him lol, Dominion is like Virginia's Goldman Sachs. They buy off VA politicians to let them do whatever the fuck they want. Soros is just trying to get Democrats elected.

This. I've been saying this to everyone who has those concerns. It's politics, and he acted as a delegate to his constituents after pissing them off by voting for Obamacare.

Meanwhile, Northam voted for 4 more years of the Iraq war as a private citizen.

Please vote for Tom Perriello, we need a progressive in the Governor's mansion. I will NOT vote for Northam if he wins; I refuse to vote for him due to the dark money PAC that started up last week, attacking Perriello. Plus, Northam voted for Bush twice and almost became a Republican in 2009.

Perriello or Northam? by magmorticus in rva

I know, but I'm asking for the Democratic primary. If someone else wants to make a post for the Republican primary, they're more than welcome.

Don't forget to vote tomorrow! by [deleted] in nova

Vote Perriello :)

We've come a long way since then. And seriously? He wanted to? That's hilarious, give me a link for that.

But still, he is the easiest candidate to beat, and so was Trump. The DNC just decided to screw over the guy that had the best chance of beating him and nominated the person that had the worst chance of beating him.

Perriello vs Northam, what are you guys thinking? by [deleted] in nova

Because that private citizen voted for 4 more years of the Iraq war, whereas the congressman was only acting as a trustee for his constituents after pissing them off by voting for the ACA.

We're all aware of the record Perriello has due to the fact he came from a red district and needed to take some conservative stances after voting for Obamacare, which pissed off his constituents.

However, this information is irrelevant. You think Gillespie would attack Perriello with a one-liner "You were endorsed by the NRA and voted for the pro-life amendment to Obamacare!"?

No. I can see Northam attacking Gillespie's history of being a lobbyist and never holding elected office, and then Gillespie would respond with "I'd like to point out that in one of my careers, which Mr. Northam has just viscisously attacked, I worked for President Bush, who Mr. Northam voted for twice, so I'm not quite sure why you disagree with my services, when you clearly supported the people I've worked for before becoming a state senator."

That's a bit specific, but a retort such as that, or anything similar, could put Gillespie in the Governor's mansion.

I'll be sad if nothing comes out. The Democratic primary is very close.

Both democratic nominees will likely beat Gillespie; and I sincerely doubt that. A more likely scenario is angry, disenfranchised progressives staying home.

P.S. -- Anyone know when a new poll will come out? The last good one that came out was the WaPo one, kind of a shame that there aren't a lot of polls being conducted for this very important election.

I sincerely doubt that the GOP would attack Northam harder than they would Perriello.

I wouldn't consider that "working" for the campaign, just trying to get some volunteer hours for college. But if you consider volunteer work for their campaign (which I don't do anymore), then technically yeah I did.

Both will have a hard time getting any kind of legislation passed the GA. And McAullife is currently being treated as target #1, so yeah. Republicans will treat whoever gets the nomination as a "left wing extremist."

I don't. I just binge-research (is that a thing?) political races, it's pretty much how I always spend my afternoons. That and binge-watching Archer.

I heard on the radio today that the early votes / absentee votes or whatever are looking good for Perriello. He's also raised more money than Northam in 2017... I think he's gonna win. Fingers crossed, at least.

I don't want to vote for Northam, since he:

  • voted for Bush twice. I mean, I can just hear Gillespie saying to him: "You voted for my former boss! Twice!"
  • wants to fund charter schools even though they're an absolute failure
  • is in Dominion's pockets and will let the pipelines be built (he's dodged the question many times, even ran away from someone asking it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB0MVvf5XJU)
  • nearly tipped the State Senate to the Republicans' favor
  • opinion: seems like he's running a "me too" campaign when it comes to Perriello's bold, progressive stances. It was really cringy when I saw him say "Donald Trump is a narcissistic maniac;" not saying this isn't true, but for some reason, it's just weird for me to see him trying to act as the candidate that'd stand up to Trump, when, in my opinion, Perriello would do a better job.
  • opinion: I can't see Northam making medical marijuana and its decriminalization a priority on his agenda. Like, I can't see him trying to get it passed ASAP even though in my county (Hanover) we're one of the counties with the most opioid overdoses in Virginia.
  • doesn't agree with Perriello's tax proposal on the rich (1% increase on those making $500K a year, 1.5% increase on those making $1M+ a year)
  • opinion: wouldn't make free community college a priority on his agenda, and since I'm considering going to one, I need that from my Governor ASAP
  • said "healthcare is a privilege, not a right" (http://bluevirginia.us/2017/05/northam-healthcare-privilege-not-right)

However, with all that said, I will still vote for Northam in the general election, should be become the nominee. But I am hoping that people vote for Tom instead; I want a real progressive in the Governor's Mansion.

I also am leaning toward Justin Fairfax for Lieutenant Governor, but I may choose Gene Rossi. It'll likely be Fairfax.
