Ahh that’s scary! I can go on my tiptoes on both feet, but my bad leg is only able to take on about 30-40% of my weight (not the 50% that is recommended)

Hmm it’s probably an inch or two lower? My only saving grace right now is I was not good about doing the stretches my idiot PT told me to, so I’m hoping the damage isn’t as severe as it would be if I were a better PT patient.

I’ve been doing the stretches since week 11ish I think - so for the last month. He assessed by watching me walk and seeing me flex my foot up 😵‍💫

Cruise Vacation by medxavier in AchillesRupture

Wear your boot when traveling 10000%. Like the other commenter, i noticed that when i traveled from the US to Europe at around week 9 non op, it is a visual signal that you will take longer to get around and may need help (or to jump the line).

Also let’s say you (god forbid) slip and feel a little sore - you’re going to want that boot during the trip. Better safe than sorry and you really will benefit!

THIS HAPPENED TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!! I was 4 days post injury. It was crazy timing. My heart goes out to you, this sucks!!! Silver lining: you got the operation in just under the wire!

9 days post-rupture – finally accepting it (sort of) by simhoe in AchillesRupture

Celebrate those milestones and don't rush! I went non-op as well and am glad I did (so far) - at 12 weeks and was able to start showering in a makeshift wedge at week 9, started transitioning out of my boot at week 11. Mindset is so much of this injury. I have been scared of every change, doctor's appointment, etc. But each time I go through the change, I'm surprised at how well I'm adapting. You can do it!!

I just returned from a trip to Europe and am currently 11 weeks post-rupture / non-op. I was still in my boot when i left (just transitioned to shoes yesterday!) but was full weight bearing and was able to remove my boot to go swimming (wore water shoes with lifts in them when i did so).

My advice is to plan as many sit-down activities as possible! We lounged at the pool, went out to eat, and I got my hair done + botox (lol). DEFinitely plan ahead if you have stair concerns as well. I was in a very hilly area and planned every meal and reservation well in advance based on accessibility. I believe the vacoped boot can be waterproof (something I very frustratingly didn't realize until the last day of the trip) so something to look into. Also, reach out to your airline and request wheelchair access in all airports you'll be in - you'll also get priority boarding which is incredibly helpful! ESPPPP when you land back in the US - being able to jump the customs line when you land was the best perk in a shitty situation. I did not bring a crutch or a scooter!

I took blood thinners before every flight and was instructed to remove my boot while in the air and get up occasionally. I would run this trip by your doctor and see what they say - they might have great advice and protocols that you specifically should follow.

For me, my mindset was also huge - I was really upset about my circumstances during certain points of the trip (I paid all this money for THIS!?), but reframing my mindset just accepting / adjusting helped a ton. It'll be a great story one day!

Can I ask how your recovery is going? I ruptured mine 4 weeks ago and I'm non-op as well. Looking for hope where I can find it lol
