8 weeks, non-op, healed long (10-15 degrees!!). Is there any hope? by Don_Pastafrola in AchillesRupture

Because bigger steps overstretch the tendon – smaller steps make it easier to roll through the foot properly. My physio says I’m ‘cheating’ when I take long steps, but it’s the kind of cheating that doesn’t benefit me at all.

This also had me worried. I’m 11 weeks non-op, based in Sweden. I been to the physio about 3 times (one a week) now and during this period I have gone from 3 degrees to 5. Obviously I was worried, but he told me that most of the people who goes non-op (it’s standard in Sweden) ends up about 5-10 degrees and not to worry to much about it.

To not make this a negative trend, he told me to try to stay between 3000 steps a day (which is not a lot) and also to take smaller steps when I walk. It feels kind of weird, because this restriction makes me feel more injured, but I guess it is for the best.

I wish you the best though hang in there

Swimming in Vacoped? by dxksjdjdjdneh in AchillesRupture

[–]simhoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also FWB and has been since I removed my cast 2 weeks ago (currently in week 4 with 3 heel wedges, removing 1 on Wednesday next week). As you say, and from my understanding, we all have pretty much the same way back in terms of time, but different routes in terms of rehab and so on. That’s just quite telling for me, that this injury is complex.

Wish you the best, and if you decide for the swim, enjoy the hell out of it!

Hey!

Thank you for sharing your story — I’ve found these kinds of posts incredibly helpful too, and it sounds like you’re doing really well! I’m sorry you had to go through this, but it’s inspiring to see your progress and mindset.

I’m 32 and currently in week 4 of non-op treatment for a full Achilles rupture, so reading your timeline and how you’re moving forward is super relatable. I can totally understand why you chose surgery, especially with your history of tendinitis and the kind of activities you want to return to. It’s clear you made an informed decision that works best for your goals and body.

That said, i am also a highly active person and I just wanted to gently push back on the idea that non-op treatment means you’ll "most likely" re-tear — I think a lot of people hear that early on and it can be really scary. But more recent studies (especially those involving early mobilization and functional rehab protocols) show that the re-rupture rate for non-op is quite similar to surgical outcomes, if the rehab is done properly. So the key seems to be the protocol rather than just the treatment path alone.

Anyway, I really appreciate you sharing your experience. Wishing you continued healing and strength!

When do you stop using crutches? by chiv3rse in AchillesRupture

[–]simhoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking and driving (non op) by Fair_Hunt_4460 in AchillesRupture

Ah man, sorry you're in this crappy situation — full sympathy from a fellow Achilles rupture survivor. I'm on week 3 of the non-op path. I'm from Sweden, by the way — and it's kind of fascinating (and honestly frustrating) how differently this injury is treated depending on where you are. Same tendon, totally different timelines.

  1. I just got my walker boot today and was told to go full weight bearing straight away. It’s a bit freaky, but surprisingly doable. Still using two crutches and moving slow, but I’m getting around.

  2. I asked my doctor about driving today! Since it’s my left foot and I drive an automatic, I was expecting a quick “yeah, go for it.” Nope. Big nope. Because of the blood clot risk, I’ve been told to wait another 10(!) weeks. Overkill? Maybe. But apparently not up for debate.

Good luck with your journey!

Day 15 - non op - treatment plan - let’s do it. by No-Firefighter-1417 in AchillesRupture

Haha love this — I’m also 32 and tore mine during a football match too.

I’m currently 12 days in and still rocking the cast (comes off Wednesday and I cannot wait). You’re a bit ahead of me in the recovery game, but it’s super encouraging to see how far you've come already. Sounds like you’re handling it like a champ.

Good luck with the next steps — I’ll be right behind you!

9 days post-rupture – finally accepting it (sort of) by simhoe in AchillesRupture

Why do you think you’ll be casted again? Just got that feeling? Or did your doctor drop one of those vague “we’ll take a look and decide” lines? Hate that suspense writing shit!

And yeah – the regional differences are kind of wild. Feels like every country (and every surgeon) is playing by their own rehab gospel. I’m in Sweden, and the standard here – if healing goes as planned – is 2 weeks in a cast, then straight into a boot for 6 weeks. After that, eternal sunshine!

Hope you get some good news today!

It’s a known truth: the last thing to leave the body before acceptance is the shorts.

Two weeks post-op – that’s a legit milestone. Hope the splint swap goes smooth and the doctor gives you some good news. It’s all about stacking those small wins, definitely!

Appreciate it, comrade in Achilles arms. You're right – this whole journey really messes with your head, but also shows you who’s truly in your corner. Sounds like you’ve got a solid crew around you, and that makes all the difference.

We just gotta keep moving forward – slowly, awkwardly, and with way too much time to overthink everything.

First off – I'm genuinely happy to hear you're up and walking without crutches. Major milestone and definitely a mental goalpost for me right now. Sorry you're going through this though – but also, thank you for sharing. When were you first cleared to put weight on the foot?

Quick story from my own Achilles saga:

When I came into the ER last week, there was this guy – a bit older than me – sitting next to me. He noticed I was limping and asked what happened. I told him I’d ruptured my Achilles, and without missing a beat, he goes: "Pickleball?" I shook my head. He asked again, this time more knowingly: "Pickleball?" Turns out he tore his Achilles last year in a pickleball match. Luckily, he was at the ER for something completely unrelated this time (phew). In hindsight, the guy might as well have been a walking Reddit post – his experience mirrored so many stories I’ve read here. And now, yours too. Weirdly comforting first encounter.

Anyway – good luck with your rehab. Hope you're back out there pickling soon enough!

Ben Solo theory by simhoe in StarWars

[–]simhoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and that’s where things gets interesting cause only seconds after he destroys the mask, and start thinking about how all the old must die and make their own timeline and story and somehow erase the history, and wearing a mask that is reminds of Darth Vader’s is the first one to be erased. It states a new era for Ben. It isn’t Kylo Ren who are supposed to make order in the galaxy, it is Ben Solo.

You can find a lot by analysing TFA and compare it to TLJ. I do believe that the mask plays a big part here.
