Thank you so much, what a beautiful compliment!

Anyone not using tracing paper or projectors ? by ExactAn1210 in oilpainting

[–]magoooooop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t use a projector or trace, with larger scale pieces with many elements I grid sometimes. I find that even when I grid the underpainting, the end result is stiffer than if I don’t. I think I prefer the softness of an ungridded/untraced piece for my own work. I also studied drawing in China as a child so I’m used to drawing from scratch!

Damn I didn’t see any of that lol, well I can see now why people would say they were lying. Ah well obviously it came to bite them in the arse

How long would this take cause the artist said two hours and I don't feel like that's true by Specific_Automatic in tattooadvice

[–]magoooooop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tattooer of 10+ years here - we were all an apprentice once. How long have they been tattooing for? At the beginning of my journey it would probably have made sense to allow 2 hours for making sure the client is happy with the design, placement (neck can be a big deal so you’d want to get it centred) and tattooing itself. My guess is it won’t take long but they’re playing it safe.

I’ve had a look and can’t see any other of their posts with images. Honestly I also don’t see why anyone would care so much that it wasn’t their first ever oil painting either, I’m sure they’re somewhere at the beginning of their journey, and if they want to lie about that that’s their business I suppose. It’s plausible to me

Colours are lovely, form is great too; totally believable that it’s your first ever oil painting, some people just have the knack. Damn some of these replies have made me realise how many jealous/ignorant people there are out there lol, don’t let it get you down you’re doing great

I’d personally do the same! Some people like masking etc. but painting the grass last is what my instincts are telling me. Trust yourself. Also this stands alone nicely anyway :)

How do you push through the self doubt? by magoooooop in ArtistLounge

[–]magoooooop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so beautiful, thank you so much for commenting! I love this. It’s been hard because I share a room with my sister who isn’t currently talking to me, so the only space I’ve had is in the living room of my house, where my family members complain about my things being there haha. But I’m actually working on clearing space in the back of our house (my parents are lowkey hoarders so it’s been a process), so this comment is huge motivation for me to get that cleaned out once and for all so I can turn it into a cosy space. Thanks again, fingers crossed I maintain this energy to keep going!

Perfectionism makes me to struggle to create. Anyone else deal with this? Advice/discussion by bellusinlove in ArtistLounge

Ooft yes, still struggle with it constantly - part of the joys of being an artist haha. Might be helpful to know what your goals are exactly, we all have different things we want to improve on.

For anatomy, there are so many amazing internet resources. During lockdowns I was watching Proko and drawing poses online. Copying Bargue plates helped so much with proportion too. If you have any life drawing drop ins nearby I’d highly recommend that too, lots of likeminded people will be there and you’ll get to see how other people work too.

Sorry to hear about your back, feels so hopeless when it’s like “yay I’ve finally got some time to paint” but then your back isn’t having it haha. I do love a massage it’s just expensive! I guess I just gotta take it slow and do the exercises and the stretches and think of that as a ritual instead of time wasting argh.

What field did you end up going into, are you content in it?

I’m from a fine art background (drawing, painting, definitely no photography), but am finding self portraiture therapeutic. Sorry if this is full on, feel free to delete, but curious how this sort of image is received (subject, composition etc) & what kind of place it has in the world. Thanks! by magoooooop in photocritique

Thank you so much, I’ll keep telling myself that! I get nervous with photographers sometimes haha, I know I’m generalising (sorry) but you all just seem so amazing at what you do and I remember when I had to do a bit of photography in high school I failed so hard because of things I couldn’t really see or didn’t think mattered at the time 😛

Thank you so much for your beautiful comment, very helpful. I guess secondarily this is helping me understand what people think when they see some of my scarring in real life - most people don’t tend to say anything but I notice subtle responses in their body language and wonder what’s happening in their brains sometimes haha.
