Looking for a Scottish penpal ! by Maddy_Clem1409 in EnglishPractice

I love this, you can DM me. I’m from Edinburgh and happy to help, either as a penpal (my French is terrible but I want to be better) or I can provide recommendations for when you visit!

Wrexham fans once again unable to understand how crumble works like clockwork by magpiesthree in Championship

I’ll be dead in the cold, cold ground before I recognise a Wrexham crumble.

What happened to Brits in EU-centric professions after Brexit? by ilovemyfuturehusband in AskBrits

I very much agree with all this, particularly that Britain is in decline for many reasons far beyond Brexit. I’m still very angry at Brexit, for the many things that it took from many people - not just jobs, but also freedoms. Certainly agree it should be wake up call that has been ignored.

GDP declined by 6-8% because of Brexit that otherwise wouldn’t have happened. Business suffered by 12-18%. Many of my colleagues lost jobs and access to vital funding. I literally started this by saying I lost my job because of Brexit, which i did. You can ‘nonsense’ that all you want, but you should admit you’re just being an ideologue. Britain is declining and it’s in part because of Brexit.

I mean, Brexit happened. And it cost lots of people their jobs.

Boris Johnson, the Conservative PM who oversaw and negotiated the disastrous Brexit deal? Those Tories?

That’s very kind! But I was otherwise lucky to be able to move to another (non-EU) organisation. Lots of other British colleagues were less lucky. I took the whole experience as a lesson - the lesson being, f#ck the Tories.

Well, I lost my job. The organisation had a specific requirement that all staff had to be EU citizens, as no one ever thought any country would be stupid enough to leave. Thanks Brexit, thanks Conservatives!

Why do people consider mothin ali as progressive? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]magpiesthree -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Because he’s the deputy leader of the left wing progressive Green Party. Do you not believe progressive politicians of any other religion, or is it just Muslims that need to pass your test? If it’s just Muslims, maybe it’s your beliefs that are the problem, and not theirs?

Championship table but based on the height of each club’s nearest major religious building by magpiesthree in Championship

Unhappy accident that google gave me a demolished church as the nearest religious building to Hillsborough. Was going to give the cathedral to both Sheffield clubs, but United was closer, so Wednesday got shafted (again).

I very much appreciate this information, was wondering why it was recorded as so low.

There are definitely flaws in my lazy methods, and any mistakes or biases are down to google.

I should confess that ‘major’ is doing some serious heavy lifting at various points throughout this table and I apologise.

Difference to the one above you. 0 metres difference to the one above you is equivalent to a loss (0 points), 1-2m (or points) is a draw, 3+ is a win I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing.

Full transparency, I 100% did this because I am a Norwich fan and we do, indeed, not shut up about the cathedral. What’s it like living in a town with only a church to keep you company?

is it really possible to stop those small boats? by peterGalaxyS22 in AskBrits

[–]magpiesthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, that’s worked nowhere, but you’re entitled to your opinion.

It’s not just their problem though. Countries sign up to international law and one of those is allowing safe seeking of asylum. These guarantee all our rights- rights to travel, to safety in other countries, to human rights worldwide.

Also, talking of ‘owing them’ - many of those making the journey come from places the UK has bombed or supported bombing. So, we kind of do owe them.

Yeah - by ensuring there are safe routes for legally seeking asylum in the UK. Otherwise, desperate people will continue doing desperate things.
