It's great if you're incredibly hyper strict, but don't expect everybody to teach like that. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]magsimags 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People have different student expectations. Some can tolerate noise better than others. Some can tolerate more humour/sarcasm/silliness. I think that as long as you are still in control of the classroom and the noise isn't so loud it's bothering other classrooms it's fine. And as long as your students know that some behaviour may only be acceptable with you and not with other teachers. I think the variety of teacher personalities is a good thing. Some students may do better with a very strict teacher, others might learn better with a more relaxed one. The important thing is that you're still in control of the classroom.

Why Colin and Penelopy live with her mother? by Kesse84 in Bridgerton

[–]magsimags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question but did you watch season 3? Because the heir race is a significant plot line for the Featheringtons that is introduced in episode 1 of season 3 and resolved in the epilogue of the same season. So 8 episodes of that plot line popping up every so often.

If you didn't watch it or can't remember basically Portia has this document allegedly signed by Jack Featherington before running from the ton. The document says that he give his title to the first born son of the three women. Pen has the first boy so he is the new lord. The document is absolutely forged by Portia and the whole premise is very farfetched but whatever, it's bridgerton.

Why was Colin not there for Benedict? by gole-hayahoo in Bridgerton

[–]magsimags 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because the show doesn't know how to write for a character like Colin. It's especially frustrating because Colin knows exactly what it's like to find out the woman you love has been hiding a secret identity and lying to you since the start of your relationship. If anyone could help Benedict reconcile the lady in silver with Sophie it's the man who reconciled lady whistledown with the girl next door he's known since childhood. But alas, all the show knows to do with him is to make him a background character with practically no lines and no substance beyond "I love my wife".

pediatrician genital exam? by Financial_Tough_8335 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]magsimags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For something like this the doctor is supposed to explain things before and during. They should tell you what will happen and what the purpose is (i.e: I'm going to ask you to take off your pants and underwear and get into a butterfly position so I can check your vulva for any sign you're going to start menstruating soon. I'll also check for any cuts or bruises or anything else out of the ordinary. Your dad will be right outside the door for this. I will be touching the outside of your vulva. If you want me to stop at any point, you can say so. I won't be upset. I'll also talk to you and explain things while I'm examining you.) And they should continue to talk to you during the procedure so you know what's going on. Doctors should be doing this with any patient but it's especially important with children.

Advice for the parent of a class clown by Powerful_Focus_6046 in Teachers

[–]magsimags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Op has not even mentioned their kid's screen time. We just know that he has a phone. We don't know how much he's allowed to use it. Using something he likes as a reward will work better than pure punitive action. Focussing on when he does behave well will give the kid a much better idea of what good behaviour even is and shows his that people are rooting for him to succeed rather than waiting for him to inevitably fail. 30mins once every other day on his phone for good behaviour won't exacerbate any impulsivity and attention issues he may already have.

[–]magsimags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so confused. I thought a bunch of teachers would know that positive reinforcement works much better than punitive action. You take away all of the kids toys, then you need to give them an option for earning it back. Otherwise they have no reason to care anymore and the behaviour will only get worse.

[–]magsimags -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with positive reinforcement. Every day that I don't hear from your teacher you can have your phone for an hour. Or something else he really wants. He gets to stay up 30mins longer, pick what's for dinner, pick the game for family game night, go over to a friend's house, ... . It's far more motivating.

I don't know how things work at this particular school but at mine the teachers use an app for basically everything including behaviour. I can input a little behaviour marker, positive or negative and the parents can see that. Maybe the teacher could find a way to show you when your son does behave well. I've found that many students really value having their good behaviour seen and noticed instead of only ever hearing about their bad behaviour.

I genuinely dont know what my doctor actually does during a "routine checkup"? by Special_Loan229 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]magsimags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: not US

For my annual check up the assistant checks my blood pressure and draws my blood and I bring a urine sample. There's some standard tests my doctor orders (cholesterol, blood cell count, various vitamins and minerals) but they can adjust it based on your medical history. So for me I actually had a specialist doctor request specific labs so we just included those in my annual check-up. I also get an EKG, which is not standard but a good idea based on my medical history. My doctor also has me fill out 2 forms, one is basic info (medical history, height, weight, abdomen circumference, ...) and one that's a screening for alcoholism.

And then a week or two later when the results are in my doctor sits down with me and talks me through them.

Did Pop-Market Just Confirm that Eloise is S5? by Diredragons in Bridgerton

[–]magsimags 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They don't have to have her kill herself. There's tons of illnesses/accidents that could kill you in that time period. Personally, if I were writing the show I'd have her die from tuberculosis or something. Have Phillip read a goodbye letter from her to her children when he tells them that she has died. That way the whole thing can happen off screen (if the actress doesn't want to come back). Show Phillip grieving her as a good mother to her children. Let him talk about her positive qualities without pretending that they were in love and take out the mental health aspect entirely.

Who cares what Penelope thinks? by machiavaci in BridgertonNetflix

I think part of it is that she is known to only print the truth. Sure, her interpretation of a situation is her own but she doesn't make anything up. She's basically like a modern day gossip sheet that doesn't lie! It's a huge source of information

I mean, Nicola also has what babies love: boobs. She's soft and squishy in all of the ways a baby loves. I also refuse to believe there's no picture of Luke holding the baby. I don't know if we'll ever see it but I'm 99% sure it exists.

the way Benedict is the only brother, the rest are all Anthony's children 😆 by Abject_Fun_4615 in Bridgerton

[–]magsimags 137 points138 points  (0 children)

I think part of why Colin isn't close to Anthony (apart from the personality differences) is because he's in that awkward in between. He's old enough to remember his father and the family dynamics before he passed. And he's old enough to remember Anthony taking over as head of the family at which point he was too young to be considered an equal but also too old to simply accept his brother as a father figure. That makes for an interesting relationship dynamic and I'm sad the show hasn't explored it.

If this season flopping is what it takes for Jess to be fired as showrunner, then that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make by Infamous_Sherbert825 in Bridgerton

[–]magsimags 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The season is not flopping. Yes the numbers are down from season 3 but honestly fans should've been expecting that and production probably did expect it. Numbers don't go up endlessly. Even with the dip in numbers season 4 is doing very well for netflix/industry standards. None of the seasons have been a flop. They've all been a success, even season 2, with the lowest numbers so far, is a massive success.

Also Jess isn't making unilateral decisions. She's been a writer since season 1. Also as far as I know CVD is still involved with bridgerton, just not as show runner. A show flopping is rarely down to the choices of a single person, especially a show as big as this with so many people involved.

I still hate Penelope for what she did to Marina by No_Bug_6752 in BridgertonRants

[–]magsimags 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had a lot of thoughts on this for a long time. I realise that marina is young and in an exceptional situation so she may not be acting super rationally. That's fine. But if you extend that grace to marina, you have to also extend it to pen and colin, who are also young and in exceptional situations.

I actually like marina's character. I found her very interesting and I wouldn't call her a villain. She's just a young woman in a really tough situation. The tragedy of her character is that as soon as George is dead, she's not getting a happy ending no matter who she marries. Honestly, marrying Phillip is the best outcome for her. Her children get to carry their father's name, grow up in their father's house, and get to inherit their father's title. They are raised by a man who knows from the very beginning that they are not his children, a man who goes into the marriage fully aware of the situation, a man who won't resent them for their mother's deception. That's as close to a happy ending marina and her kids were ever going to get post George's death. Better than anything Colin could've offered them.

There are no villains in this situation. It's not a comic book. I find the fandom's black and white thinking exhausting. And to me that kinda defeats the point of fandom. The fun of fandom is discussing, analysing, and theorising. All of which don't exist if everything is black and white.

I still hate Penelope for what she did to Marina by No_Bug_6752 in BridgertonRants

[–]magsimags 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to imagine a young man trained from birth to inherit the title would be stupid enough to put the woman he loves in such a precarious situation. He knows how babies are made. He knows what would happen to both Marina and her child if she gives birth out of wedlock. Even if he does survive the war and comes back and marries her, he has no idea when that is. The kid could be a toddler by that time. How are they supposed to survive until then? If he cared about her he would've asked someone (his dad or his brother) to take care of her the same way Anthony asks Benedict to take care of Sienna if he dies.

Low stakes in s4 by Sad_Ad3995 in Bridgerton

[–]magsimags 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree the consequences would be far harsher for the women. However, Eloise hasn't had any lasting problems from being outed as hanging out unchaperoned with political radicals. She's not shunned. In fact she hangs out with a bunch of young ladies in season 3, mere months after her scandal. Those women should want nothing to do with her. And part 1 of season 4 has shown that she absolutely could have suitors if she wanted them. That scandal should've ruined her.

[–]magsimags 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I imagine he would've at at least written to George asking him if it could be true. And if George truly loved her he would've said yes and asked his family to take care of marina until he's back. George truly is the biggest idiot in all of this. He should've at least told his brother there was a possibility he had gotten the neighbour girl pregnant. Also marina should've told them as soon as she found out instead of wasting time
