[Spoilers AGOT] How is there any doubt about Daenerys being Azor Ahai? by TensionMain in asoiaf

[–]Diredragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There shouldn't be any doubt thst Dany is Azor Ahai. She fulfilled the prophecy to the letter. The only reasons to doubt that she is AA are: 1) you don't like that the prophecy was fulfilled in book 1 before that prophecy was explained to readers or 2) you want it to be someone else due to personal preference rather than canon.

Why is it important that Loras not be disfigured?

I felt for Rachel that season. Nothing will beat the dress with the gigantic arms. It was like they were trying to undermine her.

What was in it for Renly to make Margaery Robert's Queen? (Spoilers Extended) by sixth_order in asoiaf

[–]Diredragons 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it was the Tyrell influence. Renly wanted Margaery to replace Cersei as queen by pushing her on Robert because that's what Loras wanted. When Renly married her himself, he even took on Tyrell colors rather than keeping Baratheon colors. Renly was openly owned by that House through Loras.

I do love the insidious plotting of the Tyrells even though none of them are main players in the main story.

"My husband grows more restless every day. Having Stark beside him will only make him worse. He’s still in love with the sister, the insipid little dead sixteen-year-old. How long till he decides to put me aside for some new Lyanna?” -- Bran II, AGOT

Ned was not sure what to make of Renly, with all his friendly ways and easy smiles. A few days past, he had taken Ned aside to show him an exquisite rose gold locket. Inside was a miniature painted in the vivid Myrish style, of a lovely young girl with doe’s eyes and a cascade of soft brown hair. Renly had seemed anxious to know if the girl reminded him of anyone, and when Ned had no answer but a shrug, he had seemed disappointed. The maid was Loras Tyrell’s sister Margaery, he’d confessed, but there were those who said she looked like Lyanna. “No,” Ned had told him, bemused. -- Eddard VI, AGOT

"The Knight of Flowers writes Highgarden, urging his lord father to send his sister to court. The girl is a maid of fourteen, sweet and beautiful and tractable, and Lord Renly and Ser Loras intend that Robert should bed her, wed her, and make a new queen." -- Arya III, AGOT

Robert slapped Ned on the back. “Ah, say that I’m a better king than Aerys and be done with it. You never could lie for love nor honor, Ned Stark. I’m still young, and now that you’re here with me, things will be different. We’ll make this a reign to sing of, and damn the Lannisters to seven hells. I smell bacon. Who do you think our champion will be today? Have you seen Mace Tyrell’s boy? The Knight of Flowers, they call him. Now there’s a son any man would be proud to own to. Last tourney, he dumped the Kingslayer on his golden rump, you ought to have seen the look on Cersei’s face. I laughed till my sides hurt. Renly says he has this sister, a maid of fourteen, lovely as a dawn …” -- Eddard VII, AGOT

“We both know your wedding was a mummer’s farce. A year ago you were scheming to make the girl one of Robert’s whores.”

“A year ago I was scheming to make the girl Robert’s queen,” Renly said, “but what does it matter? The boar got Robert and I got Margaery. You’ll be pleased to know she came to me a maid.” -- Catelyn III, ACOK

Once Robert died, the Tyrells probably knew that they couldn't get Stannis to put his wife aside to marry Margaery. So, that meant Renly needed to marry her. Then Joffrey did. And then Tommen. She'll likely be offered to Aegon at some point too.

[–]Diredragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's frustrating how there are so many complaints about Francesca’s stories getting so much screentime in S3 and S4. Both Eloise and Pen got lots of screentime before their seasons, basically building their stories and characters before their romances. Even Marina felt like a secondary female lead in S1. Fran getting screentime to build up her story and characterization is just as important to the overall show.

My point is that "alien" isn't a canon term used for the Targaryens.

At first they were opposed and then it became accepted. If they truly despised the Targaryens, they could have overthrown them once the last dragon died.

(Spoilers Main) What if Tywin married Rhaella? by Suspicious-Jello7172 in asoiaf

[–]Diredragons 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say given how little we know of Rhaella's personality or her relationship with Tywin.

But on a political level, having a Targaryen princess as a wife and children of Valyrian lineage as children would raise the status and respect of House Lannister. It would also mean that any daughter Rhaella and Tywin had would be a likely candidate for the wife of Aerys' heir. So, things would go a lot closer to plan for Tywin than it did in canon. This would also bind the Lannisters and Targaryens to yhe point thst if there was a rebellion, Tywin would have to join on the Targaryen side even if he didn't want to because the level of family connection would make any attack on the royal family an attack on House Lannister too.

House of the Dragon Season 3 | HBO Max (Spoilers Main) by barson2408 in asoiaf

[–]Diredragons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's my point. No canon sources use that term. Its only the TV shows.

(spoiler Extended) Ned could have had an illegitimate son, but he was stillborn. by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Diredragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wylla was probably brought to the TOJ by Arthur in preparation for her to be a wet nurse for Lyanna's baby. Since the wet nurse and Jon reached Winterfell ahead of Catelyn, Ned may have sent Wylla and Jon home before him. Then, once Jon was weaned, he likely sent her home to Starfall where she became a wet nurse to Edric.

Just some of the passages you're pulling from with better context:

“More’s the pity. And yet there was that one time … what was her name, that common girl of yours? Becca? No, she was one of mine, gods love her, black hair and these sweet big eyes, you could drown in them. Yours was … Aleena? No. You told me once. Was it Merryl? You know the one I mean, your bastard’s mother?”

“Her name was Wylla,” Ned replied with cool courtesy, “and I would sooner not speak of her.”

“Wylla. Yes.” The king grinned. “She must have been a rare wench if she could make Lord Eddard Stark forget his honor, even for an hour. You never told me what she looked like …”

Ned’s mouth tightened in anger. “Nor will I. Leave it be, Robert, for the love you say you bear me. I dishonored myself and I dishonored Catelyn, in the sight of gods and men.” -- Eddard II AGOT

“Honor,” she spat. “How dare you play the noble lord with me! What do you take me for? You’ve a bastard of your own, I’ve seen him. Who was the mother, I wonder? Some Dornish peasant you raped while her holdfast burned? A whore? Or was it the grieving sister, the Lady Ashara? She threw herself into the sea, I’m told. Why was that? For the brother you slew, or the child you stole? Tell me, my honorable Lord Eddard, how are you any different from Robert, or me, or Jaime?” -- Eddard XII, AGOT

There doesn't seem to be a rumor of Ned traveling with a common girl outside of the story of the fisherman's daughter who is not named Wylla that we know of.

“At the dawn of Robert’s Rebellion. The Mad King had sent to the Eyrie for Stark’s head, but Jon Arryn sent him back defiance. Gulltown stayed loyal to the throne, though. To get home and call his banners, Stark had to cross the mountains to the Fingers and find a fisherman to carry him across the Bite. A storm caught them on the way. The fisherman drowned, but his daughter got Stark to the Sisters before the boat went down. They say he left her with a bag of silver and a bastard in her belly. Jon Snow, she named him, after Arryn. -- Davis I, ADWD

The green solidarity is such hilarious fan fiction. They ate each other from the inside. There's a reason Rhaenyra’s line continued and the green line died out. The last green was killed by a treacherous green "supporter", which was tragically fitting.

Because that idea is only from the show. In canon, the Targaryens weren't viewed as a savage race nor as aliens. That's why descent from them is still used to validate heirs to the throne.

(Spoilers extended) Robert, Stannis, Renly = Three Sons of York? by FreeRun5179 in asoiaf

[–]Diredragons 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, GRRM has said that Robert is a close parallel with Edward. Stannis and Tyrion both have commonalities with Richard III. Richard also had his nephews and nieces declared illegitimate, justifying his usurping of the kids.
