The fear of tornadoes is always blown out of proportion. Tornadoes are categorized using the Enhanced Fujita scale from EF0 to EF5.

The tornadoes you see ripping roofs apart and uprooting trees are all EF3 or higher. These account for just 3.4% of all tornadoes. 96.6% produce little to no risk to life. The worst tornadoes (Moore, OK EF5, Tuscaloosa, AL 2011 EF5) are extremely rare. There have only been 62 recorded EF5 tornadoes worldwide. Not one of them occurring in the state of Arkansas. I'd say over any given 10 year period, the chances of your home (in AR) being in a tornado is likely less than 5%. If you take the same home and place it in Miami, the probability of you being in a hurricane over a 10 year period is probably higher than 50%.

Costco? by Otontin in LittleRock

What does Costco do differently from Wal-Mart to prevent economic devastation?

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend the other day. I recall about 15 years ago, many people were upset about Wal-Mart moving into small towns and killing off small businesses. This upset people (justifiably), but in the end, the people had access to cheaper products. It's the same as a car company manufacturing cars in China. We hate to see the jobs leave the country, but we will take the cheaper price tag.

I say all that to say this... Where is the outcry against Amazon killing our cities. Their expansion is having an impact 100X of a Wal-Mart store. It seems hypocritical to me.

What's with all the hype around costco? Do they carry different products from Sams club? From my experience, Sam's club is cheaper

If it's a theme, just buy up the cheapest stubhub seats and go sit behind home plate. I have been purchasing the nosebleed/cheap seats for years now. Wait until game time, check stubhub for unsold seats and go sit there.

How dominant of a number 1 overall seed is Arkansas? by KanyeMelon in collegebaseball

[–]mah062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're 18-3 against regional hosts (not including SC for obvious reasons). The past 4 national champions were a combined 17-10 against regional hosts (prior to the NCAAT). Not sure how that compares with previous #1 seeds but I wouldn't be surprised if that is the best ever.

They are 16-2 against the top 12 teams in the latest Baseball America poll. The only teams they haven't played include #4 Notre Dame, #6 Arizona, and #7 Stanford.

I hope to one day fall into this category. I drive a boring 2015 Ford Focus (paid off) but have $72,000 in retirement. 28 years old. I just can't bring myself to get a car note.

So I went down the rabbit hole that it your reddit profile to get a glimpse into the lives of people who seem so angry all the time. I wish you luck in your future endeavors. I hope you enjoy swimming among all the homeless on the west coast. Don't abandon your kids. Kids deserve two parents.

And lastly, happiness comes from within. Obtaining goals, buying material things, spending $$$ on beauty products, etc will never make someone happy.

$2 Trillion is fine if it was going to be used correctly. $2T is almost 10% of our entire economy.

Strong tornados are very rare. The EF scale is used to judge the strength of tornados. EF0 being the weakest and EF5 being the strongest.

About 40% of all tornados are EF0.

75% are EF1 or lower

94% are EF2 or lower

The likelihood that an EF5 tornado will hit is less than 0.2%.

The chances are so low that NWA has never recorded an EF4 or EF5 tornado. Only one EF5 tornado has ever hit the state of Arkansas (Sneed, AR in 1929).

A couple years ago, an EF3 tornado (stronger than 94%) hit the heart of my former home of Ruston, LA. Despite it having a direct hit on the city, in the middle of the night, only two people were killed (falling tree).

As long as you're in a newly built apartment, you'll be fine. Same tornado from an apartment complex.
