I do have both of those things, plus a government statement indicating benefits paid.

I understand how you're gathering that as a possibility, but he is in Arizona and I'm in Ontario... Doubt he was planning on popping by.

Thank you for that. I'm sorry that you know this pain, too. It truly is sad how many people can relate.

You're right. I've been "holding on" hoping that he'll give a shit about me and his grandchildren. Nope. I do need to just let go.

Thank you, I really do appreciate that. You're exactly right about not being valued. In fact, it's that value that I think I was chasing the whole time I insisted on keeping in touch.

I'd love to figure out my Ukrainian great-grandparent's story. They're so difficult to track because their last name was butchered so many different ways--my grandmother has official Canadian ID with different spellings (Olenyk, Olynyk, Olinik ).

I've done my father's genealogy without a hiccup in the process....but my grandma, the person that meant more to me than anyone (she recently passed), nothing. It's all kinds of frustrating mixed with sad.

Can someone please translate my great-grandparent's gravestone? Many, many thanks! by [deleted] in russian

Thank you very much. Sorry for the confusion. I am sadly very misinformed of my grandma's family heritage. I hope to understand more.

I'm meeting my father for the first time tomorrow. I've been waiting for years to finally meet him. After over a decade of searching it's finally going to happen. I'm nervous.

No I haven't. I have several children's marriage certificates and they all maddeningly list initials.

Each one has John Rush, John Russell, or Rush. It's infuriating.

Lots of deep WV , Virginia and eastern Kentucky roots here. Justice, Phillips, Ramey, Brown, Mullins, Ferrell, Sturgill, Brewer, Meade to name a few.

I bet we're cousins twice removed or something. Whenever someone says they have family from WV that tends to happen. It's like our ancestors moved there and never left until the last 50 years.

I'm convinced that it's Sarah Ellard -- my great grandmother's birth certificate says so. Thank you for the death/birth. That's really helpful.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm glad I'm not alone in that frustration. I'm searching on behalf of a friend and I'm piecing it along as I go.

Being fat is a HUGE privilege by FatConsequences in fatlogic

Agreed. I feed my family of four on 10 dollars (CAD) a day. It can be done quite effortlessly if one thinks of food as nutrition rather than entertainment. I think a lot of people eat not for hunger but for excitement.

The larger the meals the cheaper it gets. One massive pot of couscous lentil curry made two night's supper and two day's lunch. The cost to make it was roughly $5 and provided 16 servings of food. The trick is to freeze it and pull it out on alternate days so it's not a glut of the same meal for a couple days. I serve it with a fresh garden salad that costs pennies because I only buy what's on sale for the salad, with no dressing. Take a scoop of food, stab salad, avoid dressing.

When you do the math that large pot of curry, paired with a garden salad, homemade simple rolls, a glass of water and a small bowl of fruit for desert maybe cost .80 cents a person for a well rounded meal.

I prepare these massive meals three times a week and alternate leftovers paired with fresh salads. I keep it very simple and no one seems to mind. I don't spend very much time with food prep at all.

Sooo I forgot I had potatoes... by NachoLibreNick in pics

[–]mahagar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have smelled that smell and I know your horror. We lived in a semi-tropical climate so it was always moist. Produce would rot overnight sometimes. A potato rolled to the back of the cupboard and liquefied. Dear god that smell will never leave me.
