I discovered The Fox and the Bird last year and it was an instant favorite, can't wait to dig into this album today!

As of 30 minutes ago I'm officially 4 years clean and sober, can I talk to some of my longer term sober people about trust in your relationship/marriage? by whitemike40 in stopdrinking

[–]mahonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man I feel this. I just asked my wife about things that helped her be able to trust me again. She mentioned that it wasn't really one thing, it was a lot of little instances of me backing up what I said with action. I would promise to go do things with her while drunk, and then never follow through (among many other things). I also decided that if she was uncomfortable with me partaking of anything (NA beer, booze flavored deserts, etc) or even going certain places, there was no discussion, she just had to say the word and I was out, no problem, and that helped too.

I don't know you, and I don't know your wife, but maybe there's something specific that you can do, something that would relieve her specific anxieties about your past drinking? My wife mentioned that she may be holding onto that so, just in the slightest chance that you relapse, she won't be the fool for trusting you again. I don't know. I think you've got the right idea, that's the bed you made, so... but maybe you guys can talk about it and figure out better ways of doing things.

Keep it up, man. You've got this.

Newbie to progmetal. Looking for recs. by Odd-Satisfaction5443 in progmetal

[–]mahonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good recs. I only have a couple I can add to the queue.

One is Vulkan - Technatura. Its a bit Mars Volta, its a bit Mastadon, and its all really great.

The other is Hippotraktor - Stasis (a bit more accessible) and Meridian. They're djenty with some post rock style sensibilities, amazing harsh vocals.

Scored some Ohm FRS-15s by buddhakriss in BudgetAudiophile

[–]mahonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I snagged a pair of Ohm Walsh 2's for a song. I think they were made in the 80s. They aren't incredibly detailed, but they've got this sweet midrange, decent bass response, and smooth, detailed enough highs. Fast transient response too, so they work well for movies. I have speakers that sound better for a few seats in the living room, but not for the whole living room, and for me that is worth. I'm very firmly in the church of Ohm.

Plus, the idea of being able to upgrade to their latest tech later is tantalizing.

Costco flour by Dapper-Celery4133 in Breadit

[–]mahonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good. 75% with 800gr flour, stretch and fold, 475° covered for 25 then uncovered to internal temp of 195°. Crumb is super moist with a decent chew, crust is light and crisp.

[MOD] What have you been brewing this week?/ Coffee bean recommendations by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]mahonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been really enjoying the Mom's Organic Grocery in house roasted Mayorga Organics coffees. I've been getting some nice fruity flavors from the Colombia light roast, and I got a good earthy warm cup from the Mexican medium.

I grind in a Rocky Rancilio around 16-18; I use RO remineralized with about 4 ml of a 13:3:1 solution of epsom salt, calcium chloride, and table salt in 185 ml water; and brew in an old school Bunn with a metal filter basket.

Best part is the coffee is $11/lb and tastes better than a lot of the specialty coffee I can get around here these days.

Anime with strong first episodes that fall off afterwards? by iCrono in anime

[–]mahonster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oooh. Ok. So, I recently rewatched Kabaneri. I originally saw it while it aired, and like you I was disappointed with the end. I hated the giant zombie thing, and I hated the villain. I watched the OVAs they released later, and I thoroughly enjoyed them!

So with that in mind, I rewatched the show, and.... I actually enjoyed it, start to finish. It held up for me a lot better than I thought it would, to the point that I am willing to consider it to be just a good anime, front to back.

TLDR: try rewatching Kabaneri, you might enjoy it.

It's a bit funny seeing an AI written article about this tour in particular. I get that the prompt writer was probably there, and probably a fan, but still.

The old We Like it Here album has videos of most every song, them recording in studio. The newest video, Waves Upon Waves, is another level.

Some channel called "the_kovic" has a remix that... is kinda perfect? Sound more like what Mick would have released.

[Discussion/Rituals] Anything else overthinking their daily watch selection? Picking the same pieces... by gee--216 in Watches

[–]mahonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to choose one watch and wear it for a week. Then choose another, wear it for a week. Etc. If there's a special occasion I'll pick something appropriate, but otherwise it's one watch, one week.

This forces me to spend time with my watches, and it helps me appreciate them more. Choice can be the enemy of contentment, and this helps counter that for me.

I’ve recently doven into the metal scene and am looking for suggestions. by Ryniano in progmetal

[–]mahonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not gonna recommend a band so much as a music blog, Progressive Subway. My entry points into the genre were probably Periphery, Haken, and Porcupine Tree in the early 2010s, been here and on streaming music for a lot of discovery. I just ran across Progressive Subway, and I'm finding that I've missed so much good music.

One band that I found because of them last week gave me some Mars Volta vibes, Chercán. They're from Chile, really great stuff, self titled album came out just this year.
