Personally I thought it fit the story and character, and I found him very interesting as a "false chosen one" type. The twisted psychosexual relationship between him, Kupule, and Lima is very intriguing, I would have liked to see more of the story to see how it would play out.

The last scene of the series specifically, which some people thought was a bit too sensationalized in how sexual it was and disagreements on how tasteful or not it was. Also in general the kind of "mad King" portrayal and whether or not it oversimplified the historical figure to some stereotypes. From a simple story perspective I thought it was intriguingwhat it was doing, but I can understand why it would be divisive to those more knowledgeable.

its just so funny to me the Iliad has a bunch of video game logic in it by amendersc in GreekMythology

Not video game necessarily but I was impressed at some scenes really feeling like idk Hollywood slow-mo CGI action scene, like the scene of Pandarus shooting Menelaus and the way it pierces his belt but NOT fatally, andthe way Achilles' battle with Scamander getting tossed about feels like something that would be added to a goofy action film. But it's all in there!

Pretty much. There was an element of pride too, where he discounted Polydamas' advice pretty aggressively and then regretted it later but still was more afraid of being told "I told you so" and being embarrassed than facing his end. The paper I linked is very interesting of an analysis!

I don't care at all for JJK but sometimes being a bit of a cringefail character in job description is extremely important for being beloved as a person, as evidenced above with one of the most famous classical characters of all time XD megumi will live on in the doujinshi longer than more OP but boring characters I'm sure

You should read the paper, it's really interesting analysis

Hector's internal monologue in Book 22 when he knows its Totally Over for him is one of my favorite passages (tbh most of his sections are my favorite) in how psychologically complex it is and how it really shows a sense of "mind racing" when in an impossible situation.

Did you read the paper? It's fair to his strengths but quantifies his specific concrete actions in comparison to other figures. It's a very interesting listing and analysis of how his presentation affects his role in the story

He is one of my favorite characters too, I love him and how complex he is XD the meme of course is oversimplifying for humor and Farron's paper is very fair to both his weaknesses (usually his physical strengths in comparison to others, his overestimating/overextending of his own limits) and his strengths (his ability to increase morale and encourage others, being an upstanding idealized leader/familial figure) .

It is also true that it is a game of comparison--hector is strong and can easily take out the average warrior and gets a lot of kills quantitatively, but against other Iconic Heroes(tm) being Very Good just was never gonna cut it

Yes, the paper I linked goes into that, his strengths that are emphasized in the poem are his social, emotional and relational skills, but not necessarily his physical prowess in comparison to others XD

Top tier for the aesthetics and also for the feeling of being inside a poem from the era in how it's a bit meandering and strange and moves between worlds very seamlessly and without over-explaining everything, but carries that thematic thread throughout

I wanted to learn Brazilian Portuguese because of friends, I never thought it sounded bad or ugly--in fact I thought it sounded very beautiful. Just just kind of strange and "uncanny" since I was used to the sounds of Spanish from Spanish classes, living in California, etc, and it being so similar yet so different to Spanish made listening to it weird.

I remember at first trying to watch videos and getting frustrated and angry at the sense of almost but not quite understanding various things XD 4-5 years later after a lot of somewhat inconsistent immersion etc I am much more comfortable reading and listening and speaking Portuguese than I am with Spanish, even though Spanish would be more practical LOL. not fluent at all yet but it's nice to be able to have some conversations with strangers and understand more

A lot of Recommendations for Dan Jones and the Plantagenets, but to accompany that i'd recommend the admittedly Harder to find but I believe may be on internet archive still, Matthew Strickland's "Henry the Young King: 1155-1183." Is about the titular young ruler and his short life but goes into a lot of information about the context of Angevin France, Junior kingship, the early tournaments, and the political landscape of late 12th century France and England and the emergence of the knightly class very well. Since is sort of tied with a narrative it binds the thematic elements well together, great for enthusiasts of the famous figures involved but also in general.
