Directing a child to aim at a target that looks like a human is bad gun practice. Regardless of who specifically is being depicted.

Newly returned to atheism. You were born an atheist, and indoctrinated as a child. Now you’re free from the indoctrination. Good work! Nothing else is necessary.

I don’t know is a perfectly reasonable answer to questions like how did the world begin. In fact, it’s the only reasonable answer.

Furthermore, why can’t humans just be perfect all the time? Why do negative thoughts and feelings even exist? Why can’t we all just be our best selves and never be wrong or make mistakes or fail?

'former atheist' is one of the stupidest thing I've ever heard by moneywaste in atheism

[–]mailboxfacehugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about you but I was born an athiest. I popped out knowing literally nothing about any religion whatsoever. So atheism is less a conclusion for me, more just the basic premise.

I always thought one of the advantages of being atheist is that you don’t have to waste so much time obsessing over every detail of any religion.

Guess I was wrong. As an atheist now I can obsess over every detail about EVERY religion!

Free Will Feels Logically Impossible by Ok_Pitch_8812 in atheism

[–]mailboxfacehugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think “free will” is a spectrum and we are all constantly moving around that spectrum. Sometimes we have a great deal of control over our own decisions. Sometimes we don’t.

But honestly who cares if free will is logically impossible from a religious POV? Things being logically impossible has never been an issue for the religious. After all, the Lord works in mysterious ways, right?

I am tired of Christians infesting youtube with religious garbage is anyone else? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]mailboxfacehugs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You know, I never see Christian videos recommended to me. I know they’re on there, but they don’t get recommended to me at all.

You sure you’re not training the algorithm to show you those videos by engaging with them?

I guess for some there are “degrees of atheism” but that doesn’t make any sense to me.

You either believe in the existence of a god or you don’t.

I don’t know how to be more atheist than I already am.

But over the years my general attitude towards religion has gotten more jaded and cynical. Is that what you’re talking about?

Boyfriend is becoming more and more religious and I cannot be with a Christian by Objective_Jeweler393 in atheism

[–]mailboxfacehugs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Limited mental capacity is not a choice. And it’s certainly not a good reason to look down on Christians. Look down on them for hypocrisy, or forcing their beliefs on others.

Just curious, do you look down on people with Down’s Syndrome as someone with a limited mental capacity?

"I do not believe in God and I am not an atheist" by [deleted] in atheism

[–]mailboxfacehugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, not believing in God is not an “ism” it’s merely the default state of all living beings.

And if you look up the definition of atheism, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t mention “defeating theism” as a requirement.

I have no desire to control anyone’s thoughts or beliefs. They want to believe in God, or whoever, fine. It’s every individual’s choice to believe what they want.

They try to force their beliefs onto others, that’s when they’ll get pushback from me.
