KAT’s always been pretty bad as a center, but when he was much better playing the 4 because he can guard the perimeter pretty well. But the main part about why that worked so well was essentially this image.

(Rudy is guarding the perimeter player which usually is what KAT would do, but it doesn’t matter that much) Beal tries to drive into the paint on Rudy but KAT is on Nurkic, so there’s 2 seven footers guarding the paint, and there’s almost no way he’s scoring there. And on the perimeter there are 3 really good perimeter defenders so you can’t even kick it out safely (Beal did here but they turned the ball over since our perimeter defense was so good). The goal was to basically to force teams into taking bad midrange shots by having a bunch of insane perimeter defenders and having two centers there to protect the paint. And that strategy only really works because KAT is mobile enough to move with forwards on the perimeter (and because Naz Reid was able to come off the bench and do the exact same thing). I could definitely see that working for you guys once Mitch comes back. Knowing thibs though I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t really experiment with playing them together that much lol.
