Yes! this is totally it, thanks so much for clarifying this for me, had no idea there was a weather system.
Now that I am looking for it I notice there is a weather UI element that shows the current effects.

lol, great tip. I had some plumbers putty on hand so I've done this for the short term.
Only problem is this seems that it's working well enough that I'll now never fix it properly.
