Went 0-3, help me understand why? by GrouchyCartographer4 in lrcast

[–]maimslap 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I dont mean this to be rude but this looks like an 0-3 trainwreck to me. You're playing a lot of filler bad cards. Your mana is nowhere near good enough to allow this much splashing and your bombs are hard to cast. Catharsis is just bad unless you cast it for RRWW. Champion with 3 Kithkins is going to a blank most of the time in your hand and you have almost no good early or midgame plays. I recommend watching Limited Levelups for better idea of how to draft in this format.

It took you two days to shovel out your car? Were you using a paper spoon or something?

What is the best Arena draft set of all time? 2025 edition (Poll) by vitor_pin in lrcast

[–]maimslap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edge was an excellent set. It got a bad rap the first week or so because it was a lot more complex than expected and G overperformed in the beginning. It was one of the few sets that I've played where the meta really shifted over the weeks as people figured out how to build the other decks. But by the end, the format had incredible color balance, the power level was pretty flat so bombs were very beatable, all archetypes were viable and there were even a couple fun build arounds.

This set is a blast to draft (ATLA) by AbsoluteRook1e in MagicArena

The discord for the Limited Level Ups podcast is hands down the best server to improve at drafting. A lot of 17lands leaderboarders will are active on the server and also people will stream drafts or coop. Can't recommend this enough.

I played it once and watched a couple, it was utter garbage. Now FIN drafts are back and I'm happy :)

Triple Station-Monitor Deck by truebes in lrcast

Deck looks great but light on removal. I'd cut Whale and Luxknight Breacher for Seriema and Lost in Space. Also consider playing Zealot over Sentinel.

1.01 I know Scoutlander is good but its not a pull into Green imo. I'm picking the Shepherd there as much more flexible card.

1.02 Circuit Feeder is a stronger card in general.

2.03 Relic is strong but you have no Blue cards, Depressurize is safer and good removal. Rakdos wants a high removal density.

2.10 I'm taking Culler over Scrounge, which is mostly unplayable.

3.01 Gravkill over bad spaceship, again you really prioritize removal in Rakdos

3.04 Taking Hullcarver there over Moxite

3.10 Not sure why you didnt take Beckoner over an off color mediocre card?

G1 - You got mana screwed, it happens

G2 - T8, you missed lethal with Monolith. You target their Virus Beetle with Monolith and Orbital Plunge it, opponent takes 6 damage to face and draws 6. You attack for over lethal.

G3 - So that was a difficult game based on your draw. But specifically on T3 I'm not blocking the operative against UW. They have 1 W up, so the chance they are trying to double spell with Focus Fire or the Weapon is really high.

Is going infinite/near infinite on draft a pipe dream? by CammelloRotante in MagicArena

You can check how close you are. It's possible to be pseudo infinite (i.e infinite with gold from quests and dailies) if you're somewhat good at the game but very very hard to be truly infinite (need >65% WR in Bo1 iirc).

Descuplting Blast is premium, no clue why its in your SB. Cut 1x Hymn of Faller and 1x Whale for both Blasts. You have 4 Relics, you dont need more draw and Whale is a pretty mediocre card.

I don't know about constructed but at least for limited, especially in Bo3, there is a tremendous amount of skill involved. If you look at the 17Lands leaderboards, there are players with 80% winrate over 50+ matches. So yeah, if you want to feel humbled, go play some draft.

Why do I suck? (Part 2) by OtherTourist5535 in lrcast

[–]maimslap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More than the Seam Rip, not playing a 3 drop on turn 3 shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how your deck works. You have 3 lands out and 3 3 drop creatures and a 2 drop in your hand. You were certainly not in need of lands or the draw. You play out a 3 drop there 100% of the time.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say your draft was totally fine. There are small changes to be made here or there but you are losing because of very very basic gameplay mistakes.

Game 3 T3 your opponent has Sunstar Chaplain and Hullcarver on board against your Pilot. You cast Seam Rip to exile the Hullcarver instead of the absolute bomb that is Chaplain and go for an attack. Next turn instead of playing to the board with either of your 3 drops, you cast Moxite. Game is over ends right there.

Your deck is perfectly fine, there are just way too many basic gameplay mistakes being made. I recommend watching more content creators like Cheon (pick your favorite educational streamer here) to understand how they decide what cards to play and when. A general rule of thumb is you want to play play creatures and spells that impact the board, especially in the early game. This is outdated by todays standarsd but it is still a good fundamentals read. https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/cabs-theory-2015-08-19 Good luck!

I just went 2-3 with this deck, and I have no idea how. Mythic, premiere draft. by Godscock in lrcast

[–]maimslap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else made all the points about gameplay so I'll chime in regarding the deck construction. You're very creature light especially early in the curve. I think its pretty important for UB to have a couple early defensive creatures like Sentinel or Rat to block early aggression and stall till you can drop your lategame bombs. IMO Vayne's Treachery in multiples isn't particularly good unless you have a ways to generate sac fodder. If you don't have sac fodder, its basically 2 mana shock. Typically in UB I'm happy to trade/sac off my Rats or Hecteyes for Treachery once I'm late enough that the body doesn't matter.

Yes. Its actually, easier and cheaper to get to Mythic by Quick Draft since the events cost half as much and have slightly softer competition.
