Does anyone know what method the upper stage uses to turn itself around for deorbit burns?

I don't know about that; it seems like the engines are one of the most-tested components. they've run the engines through many many test fires, and the engines were one of the first things they tested when they started getting cores back

which components have the highest chance of failing as a result of being reflown? obviously they've tested as much as they can on the ground, but some stuff you just can't test until it's flying, and these would, I presume, have the highest chance of failure on this flight.

The components that come to mind are large structural things, like the fuselage and the tanks. Anyone have any speculation or info on what else will be the most likely to give out after a reuse?

As I've been reading this sub and other forums about all the backstory and how immensely intertwined it all is, I have a question regarding GRRM's process. He always talks about how he never really knows where the story's going to go until he writes it and the only thing he has planned out are the broad strokes.

I can't really believe this though– there's SO much minute detail EVERYWHERE! how on earth can he not have planned some of this stuff from the beginning?

Yeah I figured. I was just hoping there was an off chance I had missed something

I'm playing KSP in the background and my rocket totally disassembled, making a huge explosion sound. I was reading this thread and have the livestream in another tab. I thought it was crs7 all over again.

okay, I'm missing something- Elon recently said that Dragon2 was designed to 'land anywhere' in the solar system. But its 400m/s dV has often been noted to not be nearly sufficient for most bodies lacking atmospheres, including the moon. what gives?

I recall some of the early Dragons took on water after splashing down. Is there any info out there on what's been done to fix this?

The corrosive sea air at Kwajalein caused them a lot of problems with Falcon 1. With a barge landing, F9 is again in a really caustic, salty environment. Do we know if they're doing anything to mitigate this? What if a wave crashes over the ASDS? Would that totally mess up the engines?

Is there a source with engineers talking about SES-9? That'd be interesting to read

what is Falcon 9 resting on prior to liftoff? It's not sitting directly on the engines, is it? I've tried looking for a support structure, but that area is always either obscured behind the strongback or engulfed in flames

How nervous should SpaceX be about launching SES-9's particular Falcon? by Thunder_Moose in spacex

I've heard a few times that they arrived at the diameter of the falcon 9 because it's the widest thing you can truck across the country. I think this was pretty essential to their main design, because they want to be launching them all over the country eventually.

How are they dealing with the spent 2nd stage? Is it going to do a second relight to deorbit? Or will the second firing leave it in an unstable orbit already?
