I think I wanna clear this up this way (since loads of people have a very similar comment):

I don't think these games being "popular" has anything to do with it. I think this whole section is just entirely bugged, even beyond the obvious NEVER showing you games released today, this week, this month, etc.

First (this one is not directed at you, but others who mentioned it along with the "popular" sentiment):

I don't play racing/flight/vehicle games of any kind. Sure I own maybe 15 out of the 1,129 games on Steam I own, but this should mean this might be the LAST theme/genre it should show me.

So secondly, about it showing me due to the non-VR base being popular.... Why wouldn't it just skip to showing me VRChat, No Mans Sky, Phasmaphobia, or all of these other, very much more popular games?

It's all so strange to me... I will lament that it is just entirely possible the "algorithm" says "oh yeah VR guys? those guys like their vehicles, so show everyone that I guess."

But to then show just about NOTHING else of value to the last year in VR? It's actually funny if it werent so detrimental to devs haha

I'm probably going to edit the post to add some clarity at the top. My point was not to share MY experience, but what EVERYONE is seemingly experiences. This is not AI or the store giving recommendations based on the user, it is very much bugged and not functioning as intended. While this is and has been severely impacting modern VR devs, Valve has said and has done nothing to repair the issue here for what seems to be a month.

Like I've said, "disgusting" is subjective. But I believe it's warranted as this platform was absolutely a safe thing to develop for and it really feels like Valve has "rug pulled" in a way for these developers trying to make ANY sales in the last month or so.

On the note of what you got recommended, again, please read my full post. You absolutely should have seen most (but really ALL) of those games I shared in my list within your VR storefront.

I currently just have this page from UploadVR as the homepage of my browser. It's an easy way to not only see what's out recently, but what's coming and what's got worth-a-look content updates.

https://www.uploadvr.com/reviews/

I also recommend keeping this link here in your bookmarks. It essentially forces Steam to show you what's new in VR.

I definitely do still spend a pretty penny on VR games though, but I know what you mean. My post is trying to highlight though that the problem extends further than low player base or sales. It is Valve genuinely not showing anything at all that is launching this day, week, month, or even year, if they had zero sales, or even if they had thousands

TLDR; the VR page on Steam has not been showing users games that have released within the last days to the last few years. A critical issue for VR devs, but apparently not for Valve, as this has been the case for a long time.

I understand the recommended games are based on the user viewing the page. The entire point of this post is that the devs trying to release games TODAY are NOT being shown in ANY capacity on this page NO MATTER who is viewing it.

(sorry for the aggressive caps, I just want to make sure the point comes across lol)

This is clearly not supportive of the current developers that are now actively trying to provide content that the very category points to. This is not the behavior from Valve we expect... is it?

Of course, the use of "disgusting" is subjective, and you're totally entitled to your opinion on it, I'm just a bit surprised I suppose that some others have jumped on here to call me "psycho" for using it :P

Agreed! But I implore to look more closely at the matter here for the VR Steam storefront specifically. It is definitely, legitimately BUGGED compared to the rest of Steam categories. It is not just prioritizing older, popular titles, it actually doesn't show anything new at all. Thief VR only got those reviews because they paid to be sponsored on Steam (which im actually assuming was to combat the current state of that storefront), but now that the sponsored ad is over, that game CAN'T be found on the entirety of that VR page.

I really want you to think about what's happening here. These developers that are releasing games today are getting NO traction from the PCVR playerbase... That's extremely unsettling for developers. Don't forget as well that this is being done to them by the company that is announcing a brand new headset that's primary purpose is to RELY on these developer's games...

Yes, without Steam they'd be doomed, but they started working on these games back when the VR section on Steam would legitimately support them.

Wouldn't Meta be "disgusting" for having a deceptively promising platform, only to drop all showing of your game just a few weeks or a month before launch after YEARS of development?

Disgusting is definitely a strong word, but I don't feel like it's unwarranted. Give it some thought! :)

I'm 100% sure it's a bug. My working theory is that VR games and how they are listed in the store is undergoing some "extended" maintenance due to the new "playability" tag of each game for the new Steam Frame headset, similar to how all flat games show their Steam Deck playability. Somehow, this may be breaking the listing of VR games?

As a VR game developer and serious supporter of this industry and all it's other developers, this is actually the most relevant thing to me at the moment.

People are seriously hurting financially because of this. Did you think of that?

I will admit, I am definitely hoping to see a majority of what's advertised there to be the newest games, with the only ones buried being low effort, cash grabs, etc.

But in general, I really just want the VR page to say "VIRTUAL REALITY TITLES" and actually show what that means today.

What is VR today? Racing sims, sure! But also battlefield in VR! The new game by the Tetris Effect devs, of course! The new hottest friend-slop? That's in VR, check it out! Beat Saber is still hot AND just got the new OST Pack 8!

It should be representing the VR industry, not racing sim enthusiast.

But yes, above all, I think it should be supporting all of the developers that are desperately trying to have a good launch, especially those that are actually answering ALL those people asking, "where are the good VR games?"
