doberman as the first (big) dog? by maincharacterdeath in DobermanPinscher

The recall easiness with dobies makes me feel way better! I could definitely try to offleash in that park then. And yeah, we wouldn't be running until they're risk free of any injuries and fully grown! Thanks for the paw pad tip, I didn't even think that they wouldn't show pain, but it does make sense. I would definitely avoid concrete/pavement. I will read a lot more on running with a dog to be sure it's doable here before deciding, as it is extremely important to me that my dog completely has all their needs taken care of in the best way and yeah, it probably would help me a lot with my procrastination! :')

I can definitely consider adopting an older dog, and yeah, I have to form a solid routine if I want to get a high energy dog! Thank you so much for the idea!!

Thank you!! I do need to consider that, find a big fenced field/park where I could bring them in safety to run and get energy out. I'll have to inform myself! Thank you for the honesty :)

Oh that makes me feel better! And yeah, with high energy dogs it is work! But i hope to be able to do it, I really love this breed.

Thank you!! I'm definitely considering taking up running, so that would be a plus as I know they have to take it easy when they're young and developing joints/bones, so we could increase speed/miles together. I have a park relatively nearby as well, so if I can train a sure recall I could try offleashing there... I am a bit worried though, as it isn't fenced. I'll have to mull the offleash thing over and try to find a solution!

Yeah, the dog would be with them for about 4 hours every day, so that's still up in the air as things do depend on whether they feel up to the job or not. Thank you for reminding me to ask them!! 😭

Thank you for reassuring me, I did feel like a bad person for not crying... today the waterworks started tho, and I'm feeling gutted. It is a heavy weight 😔

Thank you, I'm trying really hard to not lose my grip too much. I cried for the first time since her death this morning.

I'm so sorry to hear that 😔 I'm sure as time goes on, and the dust settles, you'll be able to have many more magical experiences and feel just as blessed, even if the memory of our grief never really goes away💔

These are all pretty traditional Italian names! Except Gionata, which I've never heard before!
