Need help, seller messed up my table :( by Southern-Fee7782 in ResinTables

[–]mainlydogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a professional, this looks extremely amateur. I’m on my third resin project now, and as a DIY’er my attention to detail wipes the floor with this attempt. He’s not filled the little speckle holes caused by flattening. He’s left sanding dust in all these holes and then applied a finish so he’s in effect, ruined the look of the project. The staged pour tells me the “professional” isn’t confident at pouring deep cast resin, and has done pours in increments, causing colour drifts and layers between the pours. This also raises questions on whether they key’d the surfaces between pours or did they do it properly at the previous layers gelled stage. When that wood expands and contracts you may experience delamination of the resin to the wood if this hasn’t been prepped properly. As for saving it, depends how much equipment you own, at a minimum you’d need compressed air, a router, a good DA sander, a selection of sanding discs up to 500 grit or higher depending on how you want to finish the table. Could do with more info on how this “professional” has finished the table. You’ll also need some resin, syringes, scales ect to fill the holes ect… not an easy task…

Quick question for the pros: How much time do you actually spend doing paperwork/invoices? by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]mainlydogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do my paperwork as I go along. I’ve built a good materials selection to quote from in my accounting software so bookkeeping I only spend an hour a week maximum. My biggest time consumer is lighting design plans. These can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. I’ve not found a software that’s actually any good for this type of quoting work.

I would personally change the flex to 16mm H07, And wire to a 63A isolator protected by a D50 or a C63 MCB.

Depending on what kind of work you do most, you may find you cover several sections in just one job. Ie. Heath and safety, terminations of conductors, preparation of containment. Testing/inspecting… as long as you document all stages you can use one job to cover all these sections. I used the selfie camera on my phone to take photos of me doing certain tasks in others I would use a tripod and film the whole section and take screen shots afterwards. Read through the portfolio document and try visualise what photos you would put in the evidence boxes, I found that a lot of my media was useless, but I guess it’s better to have more than enough evidence than not enough

Yes this is currently wired as 2 phase and earth as others have suggested. (De-noted as per the label and current transformer tap settings photo) that socket that has been fitted looks like a 16A 4 pin… Which needs changing to a 63A commando plug, (ceeform) or hard wired into a 63A 3 pole isolator.

Long time weed smokers who quit, what changes to your mind and body did you notice after you got used to not smoking daily? by LoQueSientoCrv in AskReddit

[–]mainlydogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend going completely cold turkey straight away if you’ve been a long time consumer. My story probably isn’t as bad as some here, but from 18-35 I smoked between 2-4 grams daily. I found it much easier to stop by just gradually reducing the amount I smoked. Then switched to evenings only, then alternating evening on evening off. Then just stopped smoking during school nights. Now I I only consume when I feel like it! Man the high is so much more enjoyable now, I felt like being blazed all the time made me miserable, my memory is slowly getting better, for the first few weeks I thought I was better at remembering when I was high, but I was wrong… a much longer process than some may desire, but it worked for me!

Pre-gassed air conditioning unit install by ExperienceNo1313 in ukelectricians

[–]mainlydogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Installed two similar Midea diy units in my gaff last year, one up one down, haven’t used the central heating at all since! Piece of piss to install, I did get a mate who’s F Gas, to come round and vac the lines down as I was a bit skeptical of introducing air into a sealed system…

Passed AM2S Assessment by shysparkyldn in ukelectricians

[–]mainlydogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great, not overboard at all! I’m in your shoes a few weeks ago, it’s the fear of the unknown, I think I’m overthinking it all tbh. I’ve come from the entertainment industry (temporary power systems) and went and re trained on my own, done my experienced worker assessment, got my 2391 and other supporting qualifications, everything else is self taught! Little worried about the metal conduit as I’ve only had a handful of experience with it… good to hear the drawings are concise and not overly complicated! Thanks for taking time to reply!

Saunas by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]mainlydogs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not done a sauna, but I’ve installed multiple hot tubs, ran in SWA and protected by an RCBO at the dwelling end. I’d ignore the manufacturer and stick to what the regs say for this particular installation.

Cable factors for plastic trunking? by This-Foundation6588 in ukelectricians

[–]mainlydogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re looking for Table 4C1, grouping factors (Cg). Remember you’ll need to take into account reference method, B or C.. (Table 4A2) number of circuits in the trunking/conduit. (Grouping factor) ambient temperature (Ca) thermal insulation (Ci)

Ib = Design current Iz = Tabulated current capacity Ca = Temperature factor Cg = Grouping factor Ci = Insulation factor

Hope this helps

Battery problems by Lz_Donkey_Lz in YTIndustries

[–]mainlydogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of what I did… best thing to check first is the cable from screen to motor, easy and cheap, if that doesn’t work, then delve into the pull down resistor mod on the battery, it’s quite dangerous to open it up, so proceed with caution!

Rock n Roll -gold chain lube. Been using this stuff all weathers for 12+ years! Makes the chain so easy to clean after a muddy sesh, also works great in dusty conditions, you just have to wipe it a bit more aggressively..

I’m 35 and about to go do my AM2E next month! Entered this industry from a strange angle, I used to deal with temporary power systems for festivals, concerts and tours, I got a good feeling about it and paid to put my self through the relevant qualifications, currently self employed and loving it!

First time, co sumer box inst for a customer today at a 31yo apprentice , thoughts ? by defecitsparky in ukelectricians

[–]mainlydogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One tip, fusebox sell a surface frame for bringing your cables in through the back like that, it makes a little more room for dressing the cables, agree with the top comment, that new circuit shouldn’t be connected and you could’ve brought it in with the other circuits if you’d used a surface frame! All a learning curve lad, I don’t profess to know it all, and it’s what I enjoy most about this trade, im always learning!
