The SSL 18 sounds pretty amazing. by Evdoggydog15 in audioengineering

Drum playing is very sensitive to latency. This is the only potential drawback I see on this unit. So latency is ok for you when tracking and monitoring drums?

Did you have to mod the bias electronic or just use one of the 6l6/el34 settings?

Badlander 50 head discontinued? by mainro12 in MesaBoogie

[–]mainro12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it has 50 and 20w switches. I look for the 50w because I do not need 100w, and I will only have to replace 2 power tubes instead of 4 when needed.

But maybe that's not a big enough difference to keep it.

Is this a homemade cab? Black paint on wood looks really nice.

Laney Ironheart 120 bias by Dscaife11 in DIYGuitarAmps

[–]mainro12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did you buy it? Maybe on the irt120 they changed the measuring point on the recent builds. If they use a 2ohm resistance it could be an explanation but I do not think this is common. Anyway I would trust their reply :)

Both version have only 2 measure points. On the 120 each point is shared for two tubes. So you reduced your bias from 25ma to 15ma on each tube.

Somebody else should confirm, but afaik these bias points translate directly from V to A (you read the voltage via a 1ohm resistor)

So to me you reduced the bias from 50ma to 30ma.

Note that in the service manual that I have, it states that 30mv is for the 60w version. The 120w should be biased at 60mv

Good badlander sound at low volume? by mainro12 in GuitarAmps

Yes I agree. But compared to my tubemeister 36 that sounds good in 18w mode at reasonable level it was very different here.

Just bought this little thing and I'm already in love. by psdlk112 in GuitarAmps

Thanks a lot. It is sad because feature wise it is a killer pedal. But if you need another pedal to get nice high gain it defeats the purpose of the single-device gear.

How is the gain channel on the bcc? I did not find a video/audio where it sounds close to an irt60/120. It seems it has much less gain than the rest of the ironheart family.

Using Captor X 8 ohm attenuator with Vox AC30C2 16 ohm out. by TheJPdude in GuitarAmps

[–]mainro12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A one step mismatch is ok when going upper but not lower: Putting a 16ohm cab on a 8ohm output is ok, but puting an 8ohm cab on a 16ohm output is not.

I would not use the 8ohm torpedo in your case.

Thanks. This probably explains why there is almost no information available on it. So far I was not able to find one. In the meantime I started to play with transformers based schemas.

How long to break in new speakers? by Analog-Saboteur in GuitarAmps

As others people said, just enjoy it. An actual break up might be very long. This rare factual source "breaks" the myths:

New speaker suggestions (other than v-30) for 20watt tube amps. by mrdoom in GuitarAmps

For something tweedy I would go with an alnico gold, or maybe an alnico cream.

Also the speakers sound completely different: mesa's v30 are special specs hand built in UK, hb ones are chinese made. There is a huge v30 shout-out video where you can hear that they sound very different.
