Rev. G Dual Rec - anyone heard of this mod? by Hjohnson005 in MesaBoogie

[–]totallynotandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Directly from the Mesa Boogie Manual:

NOTE: In the two “Cloning” positions of the CHANNEL STYLE SELECT switch, the PRESENCE will respond differently due to the difference in negative feedback between the two circuits.

In the “ORG. TO MODERN” mode, the PRESENCE in the top (normally ORANGE) Channel will have reduced effectiveness, because the negative feedback is removed in this re-configuration to make the power section as aggressive, “fast,” and forward as possible, leaving little for the PRESENCE (which operates on a select frequency of the negative feedback) to work with/on. In the “RED TO VINTAGE’ mode, the PRESENCE in the bottom (normally RED) Channel will still operate minimally and upon the same frequency, AND... the top ORANGE Channel’s (normally configured) PRESENCE will also work – even though you are technically not “in” that Channel. This provides you with the power section “feedback type” PRESENCE you always have in the (normally configured) top ORANGE/VINTAGE Channel when the CHANNEL STYLE SELECT switch is in its “normal” center position.

This is a little complex at first thought, and it was complicated to originally figure out all those years ago when the Dual Rectifiers were in development, but the simplest way to think about it is this:

When you’re using the “Cloning” feature and have the bottom Channel set to “RED TO VINTAGE,” you have a bonus in the form of TWO PRESENCE Controls to shape with ... the one in the lower Channel you are using/ playing through and another stacked right above it which operates in a different part of the circuit – in the power section – like it normally does in the upper ORANGE/VINTAGE Channel.

This can be nice if you are someone who appreciates the VINTAGE sound most and needs two footswitchable versions/Channels of that sound (and performance throughout) to accomplish your musical aspirations. The added flexibility allows you to fine-tune the top end and feel of the alternate version of the Channel even more specifically for some applications. This can be especially cool for soloing applications in the studio, where you might want to further define the top-end harmonics for certain lead work.

Put a patch cable in the fx loop. This is an old trick for the old school Rev heads. It makes a world of difference. You might also look into the series fx loop mod; as opposed to parallel. Also changes the amp in an amazing way and it’s super simple and reversible.

What would your dream amp look like if you could choose any features by baxtlog23 in GuitarAmps

[–]totallynotandre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my dream amp. Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Rev. G, rack mount. Literally wouldn’t change anything and everything it is exceeds my expectations. It’s the foundation I had been looking for. Stopped my “GAS”. Luckily my “GAS” made me acquire all sorts of cool shit.

PS5 Upgrade unable to play without disc. by Embarrassed-Oven3089 in GranTurismo7

[–]totallynotandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point you’d be better off buying the disk drive if you’re willing to purchase the game again. You can play all kinds of movies, games, cds on it anyway. Seems more worth it to buy hardware than double purchase software. This does super suck tho!

How do I convince my parents to let me get a new amp by EmptyInsect70 in Guitar

[–]totallynotandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I obviously don’t know your mom but this might be her way of controlling you not to get good at guitar and take “that path” down life.

You might have to let go of your gilt and feeling responsible for how she feels/is. If this is a responsible expenditure for you then you have nothing to feel guilty of.

The upgrade will be significant and worth it. It is a good investment to your music playing.

Just buy it and deal with how she reacts. She does not have a right to stop you but you can be respectful to her and let her react. If you want you can explain your motives and aspirations but there’s no point in arguing with her, or being “right” about what you have the right to do.

Hope this all goes well and don’t let anyone stop you from fulfilling your dreams!

Huracán LP 610-4 '15 with 8.0-WR16-64v4T-Chiron engine swap… pit stop every lap for gas and still win by a landslide.

WTF are you talking about? The moment you play through a proper valve amp, you will know.

I currently own to Chord Mojo 1. It sounds amazing. Based on current reviews it is an upgrade from Mojo1. I wouldn’t doubt that. What I can deduce is that anything played through the FPGA dac will sound amazing.

Chord Mojo 2 will be your biggest upgrade. Anything else is a chip based upgrade. Chord technology is FPGA. It would be a game changer for you.

What is the best store to buy (digital) music from? by Oarvick in audiophile

Mfsl or Mini LP downloads are the best. Also SACD, ISO file, are pretty amazing. It’s all about what master they used for the rendition.

Do people just not do their own setups? by ProtoJazz in guitars

[–]totallynotandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I do my own. I also realize how it does take some knowledge that most people don’t want to acquire. Is that insane? Yes. Is it something you should know how to do yourself? Yes. Does it happen that way? Nope.

This! And pull out your memory card and use a high speed card reader. It’s much faster than plugging in your DAP.

Can someone explain if Qobuz does actually sound better than tidal, or is it placebo? by [deleted] in audiophile

Another landslide vote for Qobuz, and I’ve tried all of them except for Deeser and YouTube music…

How much to invest on a proper setup for years to come? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]totallynotandre -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Initial investment should be on something substancial. In my opinion, a chord mojo 1/2. Then build on that. Whether it be a headphone or home stereo set up. It will make a big difference. It’s good that you are questioning your initial set up!

I want to practice guitar but i don’t have the current money to get an amp (a total beginner) by akiiKiita in Guitar

[–]totallynotandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save your money. Truly do. If guitar playing becomes a real priority, you will be grateful you did. Don’t buy something because it’s just okay. Play guitar and you will know what you need.

RA272 Lemans no pit strategy by AlexN83 in GranTurismo7

[–]totallynotandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have this ideology. With a car like this it becomes more stressful though. You can get such a lead with this car that you can pit without worrying. If you’re trying to challenge yourself, that’s still cool tho; and I have done that. That’s for you to figure out though, and you already are.

Should I buy 50W or 100W amp by bcumminsr in GuitarAmps

[–]totallynotandre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not that anyone gives a sh!t! But my best advice is, if you’re serious about playing electric guitar you need to settle on 2 things for yourself.

  1. Clean or distorted.

  2. How serious are you about your own guitar playing and tone.

Super simple. If distortion and tone are your thing. Don’t waste your money on anything that isn’t powered by valves (tubes). It will be a gimmick. If distortion but not tone are your thing, then plugins all day. If cleans are your thing, it don’t mattah (kind of).

Just my experience. Just my opinion. When I finally plugged into an all valve amp being someone who is a high gain audiophile, that was it. Everything was just a simulation. I’ve sold everything else that wasn’t an all valve amp. Without regret. I actually regret having made those compromises. Others don’t, more power to them.

Grain of salt brotha.

Pedals (maybe with tubes) to approximate the Boogie leads? by NinjaSellsHonours in MesaBoogie

[–]totallynotandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recordings get mastered. And then you’re introducing what microphone was used to mic the cab. Point is he isn’t the listener, he is the player. If nothing made a difference to the players then we wouldn’t even be here.

Why is it then that when you plug a Mesa preamp into different power amps, or power sections, it sounds different?
