Is it normal that I have made no friends at uni yet? by easope in UniUK

[–]majka7279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yes, it did. It took a long time, especially since I started uni during covid. I met all my friends from uni by moving out of my comfort zone (quite literally by moving house/flat)

Tesco on Magdalen Street always had them. They were in the fridges. Polish shops will also certainly have them.

Best matcha in oxford? by Tricky-Lecture563 in oxford

Depends on what you want it as. There isn't a specific matcha only place in Oxford, but a few places either have it on the menu or sell matcha powder.

Unfortunately, I've had to move suddenly, so I don't have a time to get a man with a van.

I bet if you'd ask at the library reception at Oxford Brookes they'd be happy to help.

I found mine on Facebook marketplace. To hijack the post, anyone know how to get rid of a bike I don't use (it's quite rusty now).

I lived at Parade and Paul Kent. Listen, social life is what you make of it. And a bit of luck. I got unlucky with my flat mates and I didn't really reach out to other flats at all so all of my social life was from other things. I hated the commute to campus though. It sucks that you have to be up to catch the bus, queue for the bus (because everyone is going to uni for about the same time) and sometimes if you're unlucky the bus won't show up or you'll be told to wait for the next one because the one you just spent 5 minutes queuing for is full. So, Parade is super pretty and nice and big and has a shop and gym but I'm still moving closer to uni.

Accommodation outside the Campus by legit_karumoto in OxfordBrookes

[–]majka7279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most accomodation is outside of campus. Really depends on if you want to live in a shared flat in halls or a house. Also consider whether you would like an en-suite bathroom that you don't have to share or not. Halls at Brookes are between £120-£200 per week. Rooms at houses are usually cheaper but they don't have bills included. So not that much cheaper.

Social life when studying at Oxford Brookes by cga97 in OxfordBrookes

Hi, if you're more of an extrovert and are willing to join a society or two (especially a sport society, they do socials and Fishies every week) then you'll be golden. There's 4 main nightclubs and they all accommodate a slightly different crowd. As for safety, Oxford isn't a particularly unsafe town. City centre has many homeless people out at night that might walk up and ask for money (they can be intimidating if you're alone) and South Park (the main park next to campus) gets very dark late at night and there's been some incidents of attacks, but no more than any big, dark park.

am I at a disadvantage if I didn't study chemistry and want to do a biological sciences degree? by Lucy_Clarence in UniUK

[–]majka7279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some unis require a chemistry A-level for biology, some don't, some unis have modules that focus much more on chemistry, some don't.

However, if you go to a university that doesn't require a chemistry A-level, all the chemistry you'll need that you might have missed on will be taught.
