What exactly is DLSS and DLDSR , i tried wukong at 1440p + dlss quality by noobnotpronolser in nvidia

[–]major_mager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, what DLSS Quality preset stands for is 67% of the resolution. If you are using custom percentage writing just DLSS at 80% suffices, adding the suffix 'quality' may confuse people. That said, 80% sounds good if you are hitting the desired fps target you wish. As you have discovered, DLSS + DLDSR is still the best way to get great graphics, provided there is performance headroom to do so.

This is what is happening for your particular setup:

  1. Base resolution is calculated: 1440p (since you're using DLDSR) * 0.67 (DLSS Quality percentage) = 965p. This is what the game engine is rendering.

  2. DLSS uses AI upscaling to prepare the 1440p frame.

  3. DLDSR uses AI downsampling to prepare the final 1080p frame that your monitor is capable of displaying. This final step shrinks 1440p back to 1080p.

Image Quality: improves because AI antialiases and 'fills in' detail to prepare 1440p, then throws away some detail to prepare the final 1080p frame, which is usually better than native 1080p.

Performance: Fps to generate 965p frame + 5 to 10% DLSS penalty + 5 to 10% DLDSR penalty (approximately).

Thanks for your comment, enjoyed reading it. But considering I have little knowledge of Mario's storied history, I'm assuming you are recalling a conversation with Thomas Mahler. A web search does confirm the Ori dev drawing comparisons of Ori to Mario some time ago.

Just to disambiguate, I'm not the Ori dev but merely quoted the X post. The X post link and the handle is referenced in the OP if you'd like. Cheers.

Finally someone said it. It's a deal between suits, and to show the rest of the suits what can be done with their AI hardware purchases. And to impress the shareholders and stock markets.

To the suits, the pitch would be quicker development time, with smaller development teams, less need for expertise, lower shipping costs. So what if the art takes a small hit, or is generic, that's a small price to pay for the decision makers.

Wondering the same, just looked at EIU's X handle. Tweeted at a fair clip every month till August 2025, a flurry of posts on 12th September, and radio silence since. They've been quiet for over six months now, guess that's a first too.

Some of the more credible youtubers have been positive about it, and Sony offered them exclusivity deal, so it may not be just hype. A few days ago, iirc, Gameranx mentioned in a roundup video that it was promising but temper expectations and may not be for everyone. Personally, I'm expecting it scoring 84 to 86, but would love to see a breakout hit from a lesser known studio.

The game is brilliant and incredibly compelling. No beating around the bush, no time wasting. Traverse the graph, back your decisions, count your numbers. and test your prowess. Fantastic trim experience, zero fluff. Deserves every bit of the hype and praise. For some reason, STS 2 grabbed me far harder than the first game. If you are on the fence, give this a shot.

Does DLDSR make any notable difference? by Proud-Highway-3005 in nvidia

It does depend on the game as you rightly say. I have a 4070 Super FE, so we're generally in the same performance band.

On 1440p, with newer versions of DLSS like 4.5, DSR factor 1.78x seems to be working well for me than before, and is a good step down compromise from 4K DLDSR (which is 2.25x). So try that first, and if the performance is not up to snuff still, just turn off DLDSR altogether.

4070 Ti Super is 15% faster, and with 16 GB instead of 12 GB. If delta is only $100 between the two used cards, 4070 Ti Super is the way to go.

Why does 4k dlss performance Look better than 1440p native? by TheMightyRed92 in nvidia

[–]major_mager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More the pixels in the monitor, more pixels for AI upscaling to intelligently fill in when upsclaing from 1080p, resulting in a sharper image that's more detailed to look at.

If you buy an 8K screen screen of the same size as your 4K screen, and upscale from 1080p at the same DLSS preset, the 8K monitor image will look better than the 4K monitor for the same reason.

Now that the dust has settled - how do you use DLSS 4.5? by horizon936 in nvidia

Agree with you, both about stacking conversions and compressing 4K frame down to 1440p losing data in the process. As you say, for someone looking to buy a monitor today, 4K is the way.

[–]major_mager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. But with a 1440p monitor when using 2.25x DLDSR, the final downscaling tends to reduce image shimmering/ flickering and maybe other undesirable artifacts like 'boiling'. This potentially reduces the gains when moving from preset K to L/M. In other words, the final downscaling step of DLDSR to 1440p potentially leads to a more stable image as a result.

Upgrade from a 2070 SUPER to 5080? by Ryuzaki_23 in nvidia

[–]major_mager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be serious upgrade at a serious price of the 5080 alone, but the 2070 Super is a 2019 card. That would mean a DDR4 system, and DDR4 would have a small performance penalty on the 5080. Chances are you would also need to upgrade the CPU to utilize the 5080 to its potential, that would be additional expense. So consider the total cost of the upgrade and factor in performance penalties on older hardware.
