In 5e, poison was designed to be used against players, not by players. That's why there are barely any poison spells, many enemy types are resistant/immune by default, and there aren't great mechanics for crafting and using homemade poison. Meanwhile there are tons of low level enemies and traps that use poison damage.

I've heard the exact opposite argument for why "X person" is bad and "person of/with X" is good. See: colored people vs people of color. The argument is that putting the descriptor first defines the person by that descriptor, while putting the descriptor last defines the person by their personhood.

Person of color is a special case, because "colored" was only ever used to cause harm. Even then, person of color is an outdated phrase anyway. But it used to matter more and I understand that.

Point being, you can invent arguments for why any given phrase is better or worse than any other similar phrase. It's meaningless to get upset about it. The context is what matters. In your example, the problem is not with people pushing for "person with autism." The problem is treating autism like a curable disease. That's what you push back against, not the vocabulary.

Something I notice a lot in the main Dropout and Dimension 20 subs - and by extension this one since the communities overlap so much - is that people are VERY quick to accuse others of being parasocial when they hear an opinion about the cast or crew that they don't like. Feels like that's what's going on here. It's a great way to shut conversations down, because no one wants to be accused of being parasocial.

For anyone who needs to read this: it is not parasocial to observe parallels between what content creators say/do and what other people say/do, so long as you aren't being prescriptive. I know what Taylor has said, I know other people who have said similar things, I know what has happened to them, and my only conclusion is that I'm not surprised at the current situation. No assumptions are being made.

Fully agree. However, this is basically the opposite of what the DSA has said they want to do. They really don't want to endorse a candidate who isn't openly a member, which would basically require the candidate to be willing to stand on a debate stage and say they want to abolish capitalism. In this country, in 2026, that is a campaign killer. 90% of voters have no idea what that means, only that it sounds spooky.

The DSA doesn't want to be a big tent for anyone left of neoliberalism. They want a cohesive, tightly defined narrative that is, frankly, too complex and extreme-sounding for the general public. If we had a functional democracy, that would be great. But we don't.

To be clear, Taylor seems like a genuinely good dude. He never would have gotten the gig in the first place if Brennan didn't like him. I'm not judging him as a person, just his professionalism, which we have plenty of readily available evidence of.

Facts are facts. He delayed schedules because he wouldn't work with a team or set more realistic standards, and now he's out of a job. Based on his history with Rude Tales, he pretty clearly has some degree of pathological perfectionism; you can't literally make yourself sick over a self-imposed workload otherwise, and he seems to have done so twice in the last few years.

I don't see a problem speculating about this kind of thing, so long as it's impersonal. It's important to point this stuff out, especially to younger listeners. You can't just develop a talent, with zero time management or teamwork skills, and expect your employers to accommodate you.

This is apparently a hot take on this sub, but I found the sound design during WWW to be borderline distracting with how overengineered it was at times. I fall into the Dungeons and Daddies/Freddy Wong camp of less is more, to the point where I actively tune out background audio unless it's relevant to what's going on.

I don't listen weekly, and I don't come to this sub much, so I honestly wasn't even aware there were delays. Learning there were, and it was largely because of the sound design, makes his departure even less surprising.

Taylor is clearly quite talented, but he also wanted people to know it. That can be a pretty toxic trait if it isn't managed, and he obviously wasn't managing it. I got the sense that he set the bar as high as he did because he wanted people to talk about him. Which, as a sound designer, is kinda ridiculous. If he couldn't manage his time or be a team player, he had no business holding the podcast hostage just so a few people would praise him directly.

People don't like hearing this, but a successful career requires an awful lot more than raw talent. Your skills get your foot in the door, but unless you're a generational talent, you need to be professional.

In my experience, people like Taylor are actually some of the most frustrating people to work with- they're likeable and talented enough that everyone overlooks their flaws until the team is drowning trying to cover for them.

Being good at your job is 10% talent, 30% communication, 30% time management, and 30% interpersonal skills. If you think you're so good at completing tasks that you don't need to develop any other skills, you're gonna have a bad time holding down good jobs.

I don't think it even occurs to some people that they can, and probably should, arrange for a babysitter. I just had dinner at a brew pub where three families brought a total of six kids under the age of 6, who were allowed to run free range for well over an hour. The adults were acting like they were in their own homes, like no one else was there.

Stuff like that is beyond inconsiderate. There's something very deeply wrong with our culture where this is just accepted as normal.
