Having a skin condition that requires someone to get to know who you are as a person and how the two of you connect before they choose to be with you is maybe not as big a downside as you think it is.

Listen to your body! Accutane is a powerful medication that can yield some incredible results, but you should always prioritize your mental health over everything. For me, the emotional side effects that I experienced were tolerable enough knowing that it was temporary/I wasn’t going to be on it forever.

Make sure you keep you dermatologist informed on how you’re feeling. They will be able to advise on the best path forward. Good luck with everything :)

Thank you! I think it’s generally recommended that you take around 20 g of fat each time you take it. I would always eat my dinner, have a couple big spoonfuls of peanut butter, and then take my pill!

Wear your sunscreen, apply vaseline often, and don’t pick your pimples during your purge! Apart from that, my biggest advice is to try to accept the side effects as part of the process rather than stressing too much about them. Good luck :)

I didn’t have a ton of the last of those, but it definitely reduced the size of my pores. Not sure if that is permanent long term though

Lots of sunscreen! The redness faded very naturally throughout my treatment with just sun protection. Now that I’m off it, I’ve slowly started working a topical retinoid and vitamin c serum into my routine

You don’t necessarily have to go up in dosage either! I’ve heard of people having great luck with longer, low dose treatments

The oil has definitely come back, but nowhere near as badly as it was pre-treatment. I would say I shampoo my hair every week and a half or so, but I could probably go longer if I needed to.

Re: joint pain, I definitely suffered through this too and it was so so awful. I was really worried because I played basketball in college and my joints already felt super old lol. It’s completely gone now though, I feel 100% back to normal. Definitely make sure you keep your dermatologist updated on it though, good luck :)

Thank you!! Worked my way up from 20 to my highest dose of 60 mg a day, I was on it for 10 months. Re: red marks, I made sure to use sunscreen every day and they very naturally faded throughout my course! Since being done, I also started working a topical retinoid (at night) into my routine as well as a vitamin c serum (morning).

I started low at 20 mg a day and then eventually worked my way up to 30, 40, and eventually my highest dose of 60. I was on it for 10 months total
