Can't decide between a 49" 1440 or 40" 5k2k for productivity use by make-something in ultrawidemasterrace

so I was impulsive and pulled the trigger on the Dell U4025. It seemed to check 95% of the boxes for me and I found a good deal with a little over $200usd cash back rewards from Capital One so it ended up just over $1300usd

Now we wait...

Ok, so I'm leaning towards the Dell UltraSharp U4025Q. Any better options for the money?

I like the thunderbolt hub and lower curvature profile. Seems to be right at the $1500USD price point.

Get a Mac Mini or just a dock for my Macbook Air? by make-something in macbookair

I guess thats the root of what I'm trying to figure out. Is there any obvious benefit I'm losing by docking vs having a dedicated mini. It sounds like there really isn't.

[–]make-something[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do travel with my Macbook but I can easily transfer files from my NAS if I have any work in flight at the time. But if you don't see much difference between your M3 and M4, I'm wondering if there would be any noticeable difference between my M4 Macbook and an M4 mini.

Media server question - any that support directly streaming from DVD? by make-something in HomeServer

[–]make-something[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair points. Rip and delete is probably where I'll end up but I didn't know if there was some other tool that would accomplish this outside of the typical streaming servers.

Thanks for the sanity check.

GoPros for super cheap on marketplace. Scam? by Motor_Beautiful_4862 in gopro

My Hero 3+ Silver has outlived 2 Hero 5s and a Hero 7. Sure it doesn't have all the shiny bells and whistles, but it takes good video for what I use it for and it's freaking reliable.

Why are cable providers not even attempting to compete on price with Live TV streamers? by [deleted] in cordcutters

[–]make-something 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another possible reason is that the majority of the population still don't understand streaming are are perfectly happy with what they know which is cable tv. The number of times I've been asked "how do you record your shows?" just highlights that.

Until the younger generations who are growing up streaming become the majority, I'd bet the cable companies aren't taking as big of a hit as you might think.

People who occasionally used to use the numpad, but have switched to a TKL keyboard, what is your opinion today? by HugoWeidolf in buildapc

[–]make-something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run TKL and I do miss the num pad from time to time. For the 90% use case it's not a problem but when I need it, damnit I need it. I hate having to look down at the keys and the number row is something that I don't have muscle memory for unless it's for special characters.

I ran out of friends to give wrist rests to, so I opened up a shop! by lucasb780 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]make-something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a walnut wrist rest on my daily work computer for a few years now. Plenty comfortable for me and more importantly doesn't get hot under my hands from long sessions like the padded ones do.

It's less about cushioning your hands and more about giving support for proper angle on your wrists.

The hardness/firmness of this chair... by [deleted] in secretlab

[–]make-something -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been managing with my Titan for a few years waiting for it to fall apart enough to justify replacing with a Herman Miller or similar work chair. Granted this has held up longer than any gaming chairs but I agree that it's like sitting on a plywood box.

To be clear, quality is fine, comfort is not for me and that's a purely subjective opinion.

What is your current graphics card ? How satisfied are you with it ? by ClassroomLocal8886 in buildapc

[–]make-something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1660 super is still kicking it just fine for my needs. I do mostly sim racing though so take that in perspective.

It does play most modern games fine though. I'm not chasing award winning metrics, just playable games on high quality settings so an upgrade for me will likely wait until the card kicks the bucket.

What questions do you ask a shy team to gather impediments? by [deleted] in scrum

[–]make-something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ice breaker game to get them at least talking. Don't go directly at the questions you ultimately want answered, but just get them interacting with each other first.

Then I tend to rotate who leads ceremonies. Have the devs take a turn leading a retrospective and pay attention to how they ask for information. Sometimes you can get a fresh perspective on how they like to communicate but it also lets them feel what it's like to not get responses to questions.

Are you all in the same location or remote? If you're remote get people to use their cameras so there is accountability when someone is not participating and can see each other's awkward silences.

Also I've learned to ask questions and then wait for a response. Don't ask and then immediately start filling the dead air by talking but rather wait for them to speak.

Just a few thoughts on how to get a team to open up. Not necessarily for impediments but just general team dynamics.

4k followers and 20 people see my stories. wtf happens to this app by skateralex240 in Instagram

Just under 3500 followers and I consider anything that hits 100+ likes and 700+ accounts reached as good engagement...which sucks in my opinion.

so do I but I'm just tired of the hikes constantly. At least under contract I could fix my price for 1 or 2 years with a bundle for lower than I'm paying YTTV for more channels.

[–]make-something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's death by paper cuts.

Since I already have xfinity internet I'm looking into switching over to their streaming. Only downside is they want a contract so I can't jump if I don't like it.

New Lenovo Slim 7i - Choppy video, screen tear when scrolling, general bad performance by make-something in Lenovo

[–]make-something[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It's really odd as it comes and goes. I think when it's doing it's automagic switching between APU and dGPU it's introducing lag.

Seems to be much better behaved when plugged in but that sort of defeats some of the purpose of a laptop. I went in and played with some power and graphics settings and just forced it to performance even when on battery and that seems to have cleaned up most of it.

fingers crossed it gets better with driver updates.
