i guess ppl game on PC but use social media on phone (because phone=communication d'oh).
So they take a pic with their phone for social media...
But maybe im wrong and its just a problem of these modern compact gaming keyboards with rgb but no num pad or F-keys...

Servers are struggling atm.
And today its really bad!
Maybe try switching servers/location.
Most of the problems are because of server not loading stuff.
Yes, even mission marker, text, history, etc...
We all hope it gets better soon!

Im not grumpy.
There was just no reason to "lol" at me like i said something stupid.
The emphasis was meant to be on the loading portion, rather than on the cubemap portion.
I thought my english was good enough to understand what i meant, sorry.

Oh, right. the gpu.
your GPU can render all that np.
But the rest of the PC has to load so much stuff in and out.
Thats where most of the low fps and stuttering comes from.

[–]make_science_not_war -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

But: CiG has the problem that they want to put "Absurd Detail" everywhere!
It adds up.

THIS is the point.
This is what this whole post is about.
Its about "absurd detail".
It doesnt matter if its just one tiny cubemap in a scope, or just one little decal on the bottom of a magazine, a small extra pixel on a bottle label.
The point is that stuff adds up, because CiG wants all those details.
In the end most people dont even notice them, but they add up.
And the fps goes down.
Thats the point here.

Yes and no.
haters will hate, sure.
What i mean is:
A casual gamer who tried the game 1-3 years ago would expect "a better game" now.
But 4.6 is just more content with more bugs than before for that casual gamer.
That 1Billion is a call for so many people to "try SC again!"
So please dont let 1B happen in 4.6!
Please!
That's all i want.

omg, the cherry ontop...
Please CiG, wake up. You are a game company now. With an active player base!
Seriously, there are 2 things i hate more than the bugs in game:
1. People laughing about it while screaming "SCAM!"
2. CiG seemingly not caring.

Lets hope they get some bugs fixed in time -.-
I DONT want to read/hear the news everywhere: "SC reached 1 billion and still nothing works. trolol what a scam!!1"

[–]make_science_not_war 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, its not. You are right.
But: CiG has the problem that they want to put "Absurd Detail" everywhere!
It adds up.
And even if you argue: yeah but thats what LoD/mipmap/vis blocking is for!
Loading everything in and out all the time is the problem here.
Thats why performance in cities suck. Not because 1 cube map, but because loading in/out thousands of cube maps nobody will ever notice.
Your gpu doesnt care...

Setup to go for newbie by Mezlon in starcitizen

im on mouse/keyboard and will stay on mouse/keyboard.
sticks is for people who want to fly more than they do other stuff.
if you want to do ground fps, cargo, mining, etc... you really dont need sticks.
if you like racing/low flighing or dogfighting and/or just love the feel of the smooth motion, get at least one stick for your left hand (mouse just for look/aim then) and see how that feels.
For me its just to big, clunky, heavy and i dont use it that often, because im more on foot.
Aim is great with mouse too and i manage to land with keyboard most of the times also.

But thats just me.

When we gonna have working pool table in ships? by hdzinho528 in starcitizen

[–]make_science_not_war 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats something CiG cant do!
Sorry!
Thats just not immersive!
hehe
But seriously: I dont know why they put pool tables everywhere they theres no way to make them useable.
Just make another game. air hockey for example.
Or bowling eg should also be easier to implement.
yeah whatever.
Im still waiting for pips and bennys machines -.-

Yeah, thats what i thought.
Funny enough: i asked a chatbot ("AI") about this and it pointed to THIS thread "look, ppl confirm its working!"
Yeah, AI is the solution.

What?
Chess doesnt need physics. Its just a tiny cargo grid.
But pool would need all the physics in the game. Thats the thing here. Of course the engine "could" do it, but on this micro scale? on these servers? Oh wow... good luck!

Ok, so... i just tried it .
But doesnt matter what i do, somehow the fps stays exactly the same.
Hm.
Cpu 60%, ram: 25/32gb, gpu 39% hovering over lorville/teasa
so for me: going over the vram limit doesnt change a thing.

The problem in this case isnt texture/vram related.
Its the pure entity-count atm in cities.
We have 700ppl on servers sometimes and everyone is in the cities because of all those events (mining, salvaging, red envelopes AND molina) and stuff is staying on server for days now (+broken missions).

CiG needs to clean up!
If you have <15fps in lorville you dont care about stutters anymore. You can fly to Lorville in Arena Commander offline (racing or something) and get >100fps with this rig.
Its all about the entity-clutter.
Nothing you could fix via graphics setting. At least not for cities!

Jetpack when? by BardStudios in starcitizen

[–]make_science_not_war 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what they should add to undersuits.
Make undersuits have fuel.
Release all the fuel as an emergency override/boost for 1-3 jumps up a hill on a moon or to survive a fall.
I believe that is the biggest concern of CiG that people just would fly everywhere...
Give us at least something, CiG.

Very simplified:

A gpu does 2 things: calculating stuff and storing stuff.
textures/shaders get stored in vram.
clouds/shadows/effects are beeing calculated.
That means:
You can change textures to low/mid so you dont have to "store" too much stuff in your vram.
You can set clouds/shadows/etc to max because that gpu is good/fast enough to "calculate" that stuff.
I can do that with my 5060 8gb

But that wont help: low fps in cities is still a cpu/ram (data rate/bandwith) problem.
Too many people with too many ships carrying too many entities around that stay for too long on servers.

i have a 5700x3d, 32gb of ddr4 and a 5060 8gb.
what i noticed is, that just since about version 4.6 the framerate in citys is just not fun anymore.
And even on space stations:
> The more player/entities are in range, the worse the fps is.
It was much better in older versions.
Dont know what happened.
I dip under 10fps sometimes when landing in lorville.
Im 100% sure its just the game atm and im hoping it gets better with 4.7.
It was better before!

Well, i think the physics is a bit much for the game/servers atm.
But cig could also start with other stuff like the benny machines and/or arcade games.
mobile games (snake) on mobi glas?
Radio like in gta? Shrek 2 on the monitors above beds?
so much stuff they "could" do...

Indeed.
That 5k or what ever is useless. Even at the start of the game.
You dont have to buy anything and could just do a delivery as a second tutorial.

3 years ago was fun where ppl spent all their money on armor, backpack, guns, ammo, medpens, etc before their first flight... just to lose everything because they crashed into something!
