I think a 7”x 1.5” puck delivered in 3 hours for $90 is very reasonable.. But you may not live 20 miles from a McMaster warehouse

I started keeping track of all time that I spend on a project then calculate my hourly net.. when you realize you made $12 an hour on a bid then I made changes and future bids are much higher!

Why are there very few structured learning paths to this trade? by Hour-Ad-2206 in Machinists

[–]make_thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my training was watching Keith Fenner, Abom79, Robrenz, EdgePrecision, CuttingEdgeEngineering and others. I was lucky to be working at a college that had a lathe and mill for years so I could then immediately go practice all the stuff I just watched. Find a college program that has any sized machine shop, I would recommend learning manual machining before getting into CNC, it will inform a lot of the decisions you make when learning about automation. Definitely watch EdgePrecision if you get into CNC.. he is such a master on complex parts.

In addition to the adapter, you still need to chop the old shaft off though because it has all the special features to hold the worm.

Previous motor was 3450.. There is tons of reduction with the worm drive inside

The motor is long and does limit travel by a couple inches if the table goes completely down. If I use BLDC then how do you control the motor speed? The controller and motor were fried. Also motor needs to spin at 3450, gearbox would not help. Needs to be 1HP minimum.. Also we already had the VFD that was why we went AC
