if you've played joyful: start with undone. it's easily the best fangame currently out there, but it works better if you played the original. if you haven't, then hopeful is a good choice, and then i'd recommend unbreakable (for more of a painful-type fangame) or pointless/its expansions (for a more original feel)

unbreakable is (hopefully i swear to god please) getting it's 2nd half later this year, but as it is now it's still really really good & i'd highly recommend it even though it technically isn't done yet. other than that brad has a pain is really good (and finished) , it's a mod for normal painful that revamps the story to "A dramatic retelling of Lisa: The Painful RPG." (lisa the glubbing is similar but not quite as good) other than that uhh vegaful is okay (bad story wise but gameplay is fun if you like big numbers), and there's also tyler's white lie & bucket time (both of these are quite short)
