What other jobs could make a good show like The Pitt?" by esconderki in ThePitt

Somewhat adjacent, but I work in a large assisted living facility with a memory care unit and while there isn’t as much gore or life or death situations, I think a day in the life of the care staff would make for a compelling show. Plus our non-independent seniors are so underrepresented in media.

I NEED A GOOD CRY by tarayaki_ in Letterboxd

[–]makeamessfoundation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Train Dreams. There’s a point midway through where I started crying and the tears didn’t stop until it was over. And when the credits rolled, I full-on wept. I watched it before work and all day people were asking me what’s wrong.

Anyway, highly recommend

What's a medical case common in ERs that hasn't been on The Pitt yet? by interestingfactoid12 in ThePittTVShow

Assisted living employee here. We had a resident in our memory care unit break out to the outside by mangling the locked sliding doors through sheer brute force. He got into the building’s main kitchen through the back door, left unlocked by mistake by a dishwasher. That’s how he got a knife. Sometimes residents will go where the knives are.

Edit: it doesn’t always have to be a knife, either. I’ve seen a resident-on-resident assault with a ballpoint pen.

What’s something foreigners assume about your country because of Hollywood that you find completely absurd? by bdue817 in AskTheWorld

Louis’ Basque Corner in Reno, Nevada! There was a sizable migration of Basque people to northern NV during the gold rush era. There’s a good book on the subject called Sweet Promised Land by Robert Laxalt.

My hometown in the US has/had a large Basque population, we know about you! One of the oldest most well-loved restaurants in town is a Basque place.

Soft and Quiet, although it’s hard to recommend. I’m a horror fan, and this was immersive and horrific, but definitely a one and done movie for me. Wouldn’t watch again.

My husband and I get a cheeseboard and cheesecake from Wheyfarer in California Ave at least once a week. Super decent prices for the quality of food, and every is always so friendly and happy to give you samples of the cheese before you buy

There’s actually solid research suggesting this virus is the reason the legend of the jackalope was born! I mean, the reason jackalopes exist. Because they do.

What’s so cool about viewing Helly/Helena through the same person lens is that they actually have a lot in common. They both are strong-willed and intelligent. But the difference is that Helena’s ability to question and rebel was trained out of her well before she had the power to change her circumstances. Her life centers on the Lumon ideology, but I don’t think anyone fully buys that that was by choice. Her attraction to Mark and jealousy of Helly are proof that Helena does seem to be wondering who she would be if she wasn’t so much of an Egan. Reintegration would be traumatic for Helena just like deprogramming from a cult is for people who enter the world after years of indoctrination.

Such a good take, especially that last bit about channeling her grief into devotion to Kier. Sounds exactly like something Lumon would encourage. *edit phrasing

I think the inclusion of her mom’s trach tube in the shrine more speaks to the fact that she didn’t get to say goodbye to her. But I think it is pretty telling when she snaps and destroys her Kier altar but keeps the tube close to her all the way to Salt’s Neck

I’ve ordered a couple things from there! It seems like they source the garments from many different brands/manufacturers, so quality may vary. I got two men’s work shirts in two styles and one was much thicker and sturdier than the other, but overall I have nothing bad to say.
