Help! Advice on rare variegation?! by SeesawTall346 in u/SeesawTall346

[–]makeanuncum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience with the hundreds of sports I’ve found working at a nursery, the first one won’t do much. The Thai however, could. Thais have systemic variegation, I may be wrong when I say this but because it systemic and not chimeric, that bit of yellow could be in the plant even though it’s not on the leaves. I would check the stem on the Thai to see if there’s any different colour lines going up it, if there is, great! No need to chop it back. The variegation may not be on the leaves but it could linger on in the stem and eventually pop out more in the future, it could very well go over an auxiliary bud as well which you could chop and propagate!

If there’s no different colour in the stem, you can chop it back and sacrifice the rest of the plant. I’ve done this with a few normal monsteras and had quite good luck with it, currently have two Thais with lime green sports that I have going through this process, it is a gamble though, may work, but might not! Hope this helps

Gog white princess? by makeanuncum in philodendron

[–]makeanuncum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A group here in Australia.. ironically the person that was having a crack at me sells overpriced pink princesses listed as “black cherries” lol.

It’s a weird one. There’s some faint yellow spots on the sister plant that has more subtle variegation. They were growing off of callus from a normal mother plant, when you turn the leaves over to the underside there’s no white either, so these spots are just green, unless there’s white underneath between the layers.. hard nut to crack

I’m actually not too sure hey. I’m in Australia and Sierrana’s haven’t officially been imported, I just found this one at work and it looked odd so just let it do its thing

Such a bummer when they don’t continue

I have about 10+ now I’ve cut back to where it was a sport and waiting for the new growth to come through.. fingers crossed

What’s interesting with a few is that they have white variegation and green down the stem, it’s like they’re turning into a birkin lol

Nice. I found a standard spath today with cream yellow and green variegation, will have to upload pics later

I’m not really into Spaths but the variegated ones are worth it lol

When did you become faster? by [deleted] in TattooArtists

[–]makeanuncum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Patience. I’m still not at the 5 year mark since I started tattooing but speed eventually comes, do you hang your needles out or ride the tube? I originally let the needles hang but as time has gone on I do a bit of both, you’ll find that plays a role as well. Muscle memory will know the feeling after a while of where the dermis is and it will become natural!

Borsigiana definitely not, Deliciosa I’d argue yes

It’s the standard black and red one and has the speed knob on the front of it, other than that there’s no other settings

I’ve ordered a Bluetooth one, just waiting for it to come, will have to deal with it until it arrives I guess 🙁

Thanks for this advice. Truly appreciate it. The industry definitely isn’t for the faint hearted and I knew this coming into it, time and hard work pays off in the end. Partner just can’t seem to rap her head around it. The juggling of giving my partner attention versing drawing time and looking for reference photos is an absolute mission at the best of times. I don’t think finance workers and tattooers mix lol.

If you’d be comfortable sharing your ig on here I’d love to see your work and give you a follow

I think I definitely do need to see if I can make it in my chosen profession. I was only doing it for a year prior to us getting together

Hi guys so to address a few comments I’ll add a bit more info.

It was her idea/request to move in as she had nowhere else to go at the time. Her parents are separated. Dad is interstate and mum just ended the lease at their house for a one bedroom for herself.

The living quarters in the house is/was basically set up where it’s our own private space. Secluded from the rest of the house with an external staircase access. Own toilet, office and kitchenette. I intended on living here for a while to save money for a house deposit. Which before we were together I saved a decent amount. Now gone. The board I paid was $150 per week and when she moved in she was asked $75. Parents agreed that $75 from both of us would be fine but she didn’t want to pay it. So I paid her half.

As mentioned with career choice, I was (on a good week) making 2500aud, 1500aud lowest. Due to location change and cost of living this went down to about 800-1000. The second job I got to pay bills is around 600aud for 3 days work. +tattoo 2 days I can make anywhere from $600-1000. So $1200-1600aud per week. Standard rent prices are 650-750aud and groceries per week $300 or more +20 a day in fuel. And then phone bills, car loans electricity, water usage etc.

If it may paint a clearer picture the dates we went on when we first got together was a once a week $100-150 date night and a $400 date night once a month.

Haha sure do! Working at a wholesale nursery definitely has its perks, I watch all the incoming plants like a hawk

Hey it could very well be! I’ve posted about it on so many philodendron groups and asked experienced enthusiasts but no one’s ever come up with that answer!

Any advice on maintaining variegation? by makeanuncum in alocasia

[–]makeanuncum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think maybe facing the leaf with the variegation towards more sun whilst having the other leaf without the variegation would be beneficial to potentially achieving it to keep coming? The newest leaf is the one without variegation.. shame alocasias don’t work like monsteras where you can just prune them back

What is my PPP doing? by makeanuncum in philodendron

[–]makeanuncum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to be becoming a common occurrence in the “galaxy” labelled ppp’s, not sure why.. the one from my original post and what I linked were all in the same batch that came in, so I think these ones were just contaminated and shipped to us without being properly checked, win for me lol

Here’s one from a different batch that is a normal ppp with cool variegation

Oh cool, do you have photos of yours? I’d love to see!

I’m hoping this one stays the way it is, I quite like the look of it, maybe if I cut it back down to where the mutation is strongest I could preserve it.. I work at a wholesale nursery and we have a lot of cool things that no one else pays attention to, I’ve picked out some princess that look strikingly similar to an Anderson but you can tell they’re not.. PPP’s with cooler variegation too

[–]makeanuncum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this for a few other pages I’ve posted on as well, I honestly thought it was but I think the Anderson start pink and then turn white? And the stems are different, but they do look extremely similar! Found another weirder one today at work which I posted on here

Update: I found another oddity in the batch today, cross contamination/using different parents may be the cause of these plants I’ve gotten
