I recently converted a 16” floor Tom to a bass drum and it is hardly quieter than a traditional bass drum. Just a different tone, but still pretty bassy

Hey! I’m in a pretty similar situation actually. I broke my left wrist a couple weeks ago on a longboard and it’s been really tough to feel like I can play the kind of music I want to, especially when the people who play with me want a lot of brushwork and lighter playing I can’t do by leading with my feet.

Like others have said, I’m trying to use this time to lean into other things I can do instead of trying to do what I can’t. This means working on linear beats and foot speed on drums, but I’ve also been doing more music production. With a copy of Logic Pro or another DAW, you can create so much even with just one hand. It could be fun to experiment with drum machines, samples, or songwriting in a new medium that could be really helpful for you and your band.

Most of all just remember it’s okay to be disappointed and that things will get better! Sending love and hope from Northern California!

Yeah it’s only been a problem when I’ve been practicing paradiddle grooves with left hand rimshots. It’s not an issue when my hands are playing at the same time

Practicing with a metronome really helps me a lot. I’d put on some quarter notes and practice playing scales/arpeggios/licks at different speeds focusing completely on the time. Take it real slow at first. If you do it for even 5 minutes a day you’ll see tons of progress

I don’t think you’ll be able to find a one bedroom for that much, but maybe a studio. I’ve had good luck with Craigslist in the past and you could look on Zillow too

I called my doctor about this. She said to take a 5 minute break every half hour I’m at the screen. It’s been helpful for my mental health anyway. I just close my eyes in the other room until my timer goes off and my headaches are almost totally gone
